Please evaluate this purely from a shooting/offense standpoint. I'm thinking upgrade. What say you pros?
AFAIK, none of them are even close to Curry as a 3pt shooter. We have no clue how Little will shoot from NBA 3.
If it's just a 3 for 3, then I voted downgrade. If you factor in Simon's getting curry's minutes, and zach seeing some of Aminu s, I might vote differently
Bazemore < Curry Hezonja = Aminu Little ? Harkless Offensively, not a big change. Defensively, a downgrade.
It's pretty easy. Just need to look at some actual data. From last season - Curry & Aminu both far surpass Bazemore & Hezonja... it's not even close.
It’s more like Simons, Baze and Hezonja replacing Curry, Moe, and Turner. Chiefs replacement is either collins or Skal.
You realize that's exactly what I was saying, right? The guys we lost are far superior offensively to the guys we added. I'm glad we agree.
Pure shooting is a downgrade if you include Curry. I would also like to remind anyone who blindly said upgrade that Curry was 3rd in the league last year in 3pt %
The way I look at it - Baze replacing Harkless is an upgrade offensively (Harkless shot 27,5% from 3 last year), Zach will get Chief's minutes, 3P% is almost the same - but Zach got 75% of Chief's points per game in 50% of the time - so it is likely an upgrade, You replace Zach at the backup with Skal or Toliver - I suspect you will get about the same output as Zach gave you last year offensively (but downgrade on defense). Curry's replacement is Ant - nowhere near as good a 3p shooter - but a much more dynamic offensive player imho - lose some efficiency on 3P% - gain a much better playmaker and overall offensive player, imho. Mario replaces Turner - can't imagine he will be as bad shooting - but you are likely to lose some defense and play-making. I would say overall, it is a small upgrade - but not the way the original question was posed - because it is not how it will be played during the games.
As Scalma pointed out, the comparison is off if you really want to compare likely lineups. Little is going to see about the same amount of court time as Simons and Trent did last year. One of Basemore, Hood, or Hezonja is going to replace Harkless as the starting 3. Simons is the replacement for Curry. Collins should more than equal Chief, if he can stay out of foul trouble. Any of Basemore, Hood, or Hezonja will shoot better from distance than Harkless did last year. Maybe a healthy Moe is in the same category as those guys as a shooter, but we didn't have a healthy Moe most of the year. I doubt that Simons is going to be the knock down 3 point shooter that Curry is, but he has a more rounded game and, if the last game of last season plus what he did in Summer League are any indication, he's no slouch from 3. I say overall the lineup is improved.
Downgrade and it’s not even close. The Hazonja guy won’t even play. Little will contribute as much a Trent did last season. We lose a quality 3 point shooter and two of our best defenders.
I think you are asking the wrong question, as letting Curry go gives Ant more minutes to play. Little won't even play next year. I understanding you are comparing outgoing to incoming, but it should be more about who is getting those minutes than who sits on the bench.
This. Why is Little even on that list? He won't play. At. All. Simons, Bazemore, Hezonja, Tolliver > Curry, Turner, Harkless, Aminu Simons > Curry (Offense -- Factoring in more than just shooting) Simons < Curry (Defense) Bazemore > Turner Hezonja > Harkless (Both have been disappointing, but I think Hezonja has a better chance of putting it together) Tolliver > Aminu (Tolliver is a better shooter and not a bonehead. The biggest plus is that Aminu won't be starting thank god. Tolliver will pay dividends in the playoffs.) Before I typed that, I was worried about the unknowns of next season. I feel better now
You guys really think Simons is going to bring it this season? Man he is still so young and raw. I love what saw in game 82 and summer league, but that was not against the best comp. I think him trying to run our offense against quality NBA players is going to be tough.
