Given that the Clippers fired their announcer (Bruce Bowen) who was critical of Kawhi, sent reps to all of Kawhi's home games last year, and then even tried to buy his logo (for which he is in legal dispute with Nike), them circumventing the cap is not THAT far fetched. Hell, Doc even got fined for saying "Kawhi is the closest thing to MJ," It would be absolutely AWESOME if he were banished back to Toronto and the Clips are stuck with PG and no assets.
Yep, it's a very tough area and it appears the NBA has in the past just kind of taken it very casual in regards to tampering but as we have seen it seems to be getting worse now. I hope the NBA can come up with a solution. Stricter and more detailed wording would help.
That said, I'm sure this kinda stuff happens all the time. Look at the whole State Farm thing with CP and the Clips. And how they lured DeAndre back from Dallas and all of a sudden, he started showing up in ads. Or AD waiving his trade kicker and ending up on Space Jam. Or hell, even in our neck of the woods with Dame endorsing Biofreeze, and them suddenly showing up on our jerseys. Just need to turn a blind eye.
