Who are some players that may breakout in '07-08? Personally, I think Carlos Delfino will flourish in Toronto. He is a hidden talent that didn't get enough playing time in Detroit in my opinion and he's probably an upgrade over Juan Dixon. He's got good ball-handling skills for a SG, not to mention he's athletic and quick. He'd be a solid backup to Anthony Parker.Another guy that will do very well next year is Danny Granger. He's a young SF that can defend and shoot the three. He's a versatile scorer and probably will become Indiana's number one option on offense if Jermaine O'Neal leaves. He already made a big improvement from '05-06 to '06-07, and I think he's going to keep improving.

Larry Hughes' time to shine. Did it in his 3rd year with Washington, gonna do it with his 3rd year in Cleveland. I can see it happening, seriously. I also doubt Carlos has a break out season, I just can't really see that happening. I think he'll do better with the Raps than he did with Detroit, but not that good.

The reason why he did so well in Washington is because he played in an up-tempo system and he didn't have take care of the PG responsibilities all the time. Just face it, Hughes is always injured and will never be same as he was in Washington. Hell, right now in Cleveland he's not even 1/3 of what the player he was in Washington. Delfino will breakout, but I hope you don't realize that I'm not saying he'll average like 17 ppg. No, I meant around 11 ppg, 5 rpg, 2 apg. That's a breakout season for anyone who averaged only 5 ppg the year before. Trust me, he will do well in Toronto's offense. There's a reason why Colangelo got him.

Usually, you never will be able to tell until the regular season is through. In the past the predictions for this topic have always been very wrong. Last Off-Season people were saying Darko Milicic and Kwame Brown were going to break out of their shell and live up to their hype...I don't think I heard one mention of Monta Ellis or Kevin Martin before last season about becoming a 'breakout player'. Personally right now I'm predicting Rajon Rondo to have a good season. I wouldn't call Rondo's rookie year a dissapointment at all, but I do expect more from him this season.Carlos Delfino is another guy who looks like he has potential in Toronto. With Delfino coming in, does that mean it is likely there will be no Mo-Pete in Toronto next season? If so, Carlos Delfino should get the minutes he deserves under Sam Mitchell.-------BTW, I would be quite surprised if Larry Hughes continues to play PG next year for the Cavaliers and if Hughes does end up breaking out. I've said for some time now that I believe Cleveland should put Larry Hughes on the trading block.

I don't think he has any potential to be an improved player at all (statistically). He has stone hands, besides, all he's utilized for is post defense, blocking shots, and rebounding. It's not like he's a talented, young, offensive-minded center like Andrew Bynum who has Kareem Abdul-Jabbar mentoring him. Diop was a draft pick that was taken way too high, and now everyone realizes that he's not a good basketball player whatsoever (offensively).

Iguadola already had a great season this year, he lead the Sixers to a .500 record after Iverson left. Very nice 18/5/5 average, although I do expect him to improve I don't expect him to really breakout. Also K-mart is likely to go back to his pre-injury form quickly. He should be ready to rebound and help out Denver, I don't expect him to show the same potential he showed in New Jersey though.

-Like the Danny Granger call Zards, but I doubt he's ready to be the #1 option, his decision making on offense is very questionable (he tends to start shooting long shots instead of driving) but he repeatedly said that he needed to improve a lot on his offense so he could surprise me next year with all his hard work-Dorrell Wright - if he gets any playing time-Nene - as much as this year was a breakout, next year will be wayy better as long as K-Mart doesn't get in the way-I think Erik Dampier could surprise a few people, although not drastically-Nick Collison - this is his yearI have quite a few but I'll just name some of 'em

I know the Cavs were going to get beaten anyways, but they could have really won Game 3 or Game 4 with Hughes there, contributing at least something that would have benefited Cleveland. The problem with Larry now in Cleveland is that he takes too many jumpshots. He isn't a shooter. He's a slasher. He came out of St. Louis as a slasher. He's known for getting to the rim and converting at the FT line. But in Cleveland, he doesn't do that anymore. He shot 28% from the perimeter in '04-05.. so no, he didn't get good looks with Gil, he drove to the basket. He attempted 453 FTs that year, more than any other year in his NBA career.

Hughes' defense was huge, it could've been even bigger if he wasn't hurt though. He needed much more time to rest, I think at home he could've done a better job, but I guess he couldn't give it a go anymore. I knew we weren't going to win, either. I had hope, but knew we weren't going to win it all. Hughes at 100 percent would've made this a series, no doubt in mind about that. The reason he doesn't slash here in Cleveland, is because we need someone that can be a jump shooter. Hughes can shoot, but he hasn't been able too. Is he a good shooter? Not really. His game is going to the rim, but every time he seems to do so, he gets hurt. Its never a good idea for a injury prone player to sign with Cleveland, because their career will go down. I didn't mean "good looks" like good shot attempts. He got to go to the rim more due to the help from the others there. Like Gil and Jamison. Which means, if Cleveland can bring in another player that can shoot the ball well, Hughes can most likely get back to form like he was with Washington. I'm keeping hope... As always.

    Re: Breakout players in '07-08

I think Gerald Green could potentially have himself a breakout year, but it's tough to see that happening with TA coming back, Gomes extending his range, and Wally coming back (he's unlikely to return for an extended period of time, but you have to throw his name out there). I think that Gerald could be a Jermaine O'Neal case, in the sense that he may not be able to truly flourish until he goes elsewhere. We'll see, but I think he has the chance to make a big leap next year regardless.I don't know if I'd call this his "breakout year," because I think he'll keep improving, but I think Ronnie Brewer is definitely gonna earn himself big rotation minutes next year and likely the starting SG spot in Utah. He's been a favorite of mine for a long time, he was definitely one of my favorite college players of the 05-06 season. He's a great athlete, he can play 3 positions, and he's an excellent defender. Watch out for him next year.I think Raymond Felton is gonna really start to turn some heads next year as well. Obviously he's not on the same level as his fellow draft mates CP3/Deron, but he's certainly one of the best point guards in the league and I think he's really gonna impress.Watch out for Dorell Wright as well. He can play, he just needs consistent minutes. Kapono may be gone, Posey may be gone, and Antoine is declining more and more by the week. I think Dorell could end up winning the starting job next year, barring a trade that gets them a quality veteran wing.I think we may be able to answer this question better once we get closer to camp, when we have a better feel for what the rosters will look like, but these are my early picks, to go along with the aforementioned Danny Granger.

I think Leandro Barbosa is going to make it damn hard to keep him out of the starting 5 again. He's going to start most of the season, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him drop 22 a game all year.

I'd have to say Sean May - I can already hear the thunderous laughter! But seriously he started to show something in those few games he played towards the end of the season. He hit a few 3pters and pulled down some boards. Of course he wont be a 25 12 player next season I think more like 16 -8 depending on playing time. I think if healthy he can be really really good. What about walter Herrman? He came from no-where late- anyone think he'll do anything next season?
