I have been using an app to count calories and practicing portion control. I stopped drinking pop and cut out eating snacks/junk food at night. I've lost 20 pounds in just over 6 weeks. It's not easy at all, but the app and calorie count is really motivating for me.

Cutting out soda is big time, there’s no benefit to drinking it other than enjoying the taste. Everything else about it is terrible for you.

To anyone who drinks soda - go 3 months drinking just water and I guarantee you will lose weight!

I don't advocate going crazy on soda, but what I will say is that since the last week of February, I'm down 20 pounds, which started with switching from regular to diet soda. I used to drink a lot of soda, and I actually drink much less now of the zero calorie stuff. That averages to just under 1 lb per week, which I think is fairly good and steady. I haven't experienced the ill effects that some people get from artificial sweeteners, but I guarantee diet soda and those sweeteners are not for everyone. It's nice to still be able to enjoy some soda, while also consuming a good amount of water. The hot weather definitely helps with wanting/getting enough water.

Now, I didn't start out with a huge weight problem. I was about 20 pounds over my high school weight of 180 (and I'm 6'1") for a really long time, and then over the last few years, another 20 slowly crept on. Bad food choices, tons of soda, etc. I think if I wasn't as active as I am, it would have been even worse. Cutting out a lot of snacks and desserts also helped, and I haven't really missed them. It is kinda cool to be able to enjoy trips out to Chang's or places I really like to eat at, and still keep up an overall calorie deficit. I haven't really tracked anything, just an occasional weigh-in. I think if it starts to stall, maybe I'll take it a bit further and try some other things.

I think if going all-in hasn't worked in the past, then it's time to try baby steps. Work your way into it and see what works/doesn't work!

Get off the carbs and sugar.

Add more fiber to your diet and drink more water.

Enjoy an evening walk with your wife.

    You will lose weight.

walk as much as possible up stairs, hills, etc....swim if you can..try to break a sweat everyday...break the habit of sitting down for more than 45 minutes at a time..diet...eat fruit and snack on nuts...drink water instead of cold sodas or carbonated drinks...cut the salt...salt keeps you from sweating...losing weight is a complete lifestyle change, it's not one thing

A normal healthy body regulates the salt in your blood automatically and accurately. Most people can tolerate different salt intake. At least, that's what my doctor says.
In my case, I get low blood pressure often and two doctors have advised me to increase my salt intake. My blood pressure gets so low that I often get dizzy if I stand up suddenly.

If I drink 108 oz. of water per day, can I still have 2 beers daily?

I disagree...too much salt is too much salt and our diets are saturated often with salty foods. Like many things, a little is good, a lot is poison. Same with sugar...if you can't sweat, that's a different condition...long distance runners often take salt tabs to retain body water...too much salt you retain too much body water ..I feel much better since I've cut out the chips and marbled meats, salty stuff

Better question: Do I have to give up my bathtub of beer every day?

Many years ago, I used to eat donuts. THEN, one day, I stuck one in the microwave a bit too long. The oil in the bottom of the dish turned my stomach. I doubt I've had more than one or two since.

    Now, beer? Don't be messin'!
