It's time for the Celtics to let Pierce go, Boston has become a franchise in the state of rebuilding. Although they still got a star player in Pierce, his co-stars are all very young and talented. It's too risky to give up a guy like Al Jefferson or Rajon Rondo at this point for a decent co-star to keep Pierce happy. If Ainge does trade for a veteran co-star it will force him to make at least 2-3 potentially risky trades to mkae the supporting cast around Pierce older and more effective than this is right now with all these young studs.

As CB32 said, Shawn Marion is likely a guy that Danny Ainge will push for if he decides to keep Pierce. This would be a huge mistake, trade Pierce for young talent, expiring contracts, and draft picks.

Bill Simmons is making some great points in the espn online live mock draft."Pierce would have demanded a trade last winter if he didn't get hurt. All of this was totally and completely inevitable, I'm not sure why it became a story this week. I have a huge problem with the Celtics bending over backwards to appease a borderline All-Star who's being paid like a franchise player. He signed the big extension last summer, he knew what he was getting into. Some of these guys want to get paid like franchise players, but they don't want the responsibility of carrying a franchise -- I mean, there are far worse things than playing on a basketball team that features Al Jefferson, Rajon Rondo, Tony Allen, Ryan Gomes, Kendrick Perkins and the No. 5 pick in a loaded draft. The Celtics should be telling him to screw off. Instead, they're catering to him. This is what happens when your owner has a gigantic framed Pierce jersey in his office.""the reality is this -- if we don't trade that No. 5 pick for a veteran, then Pierce will sulk his way through next season, and we'll be looking at 55 cents on the dollar for him in January. That's an unequivocal disaster. On paper, it makes the most sense to build around Pierce, Jefferson, Rondo and either Noah or Brewer, then use the Ratliff contract in February for a trade. But Pierce is already on record as saying he's not on board with this plan. Basically, we're screwed either way. I can't wait for the Patriots season to start."

Bill Simmons sometimes has outrageous ideas, but I think he's just throwing those thoughts out there.he can usually back them up in a semi-logical way and like any other sports writer, he's right about 1/2 the time.I enjoy his collums. He knows his sports for sure.

He has already said he doesn't want to come here, he can opt out in 1 or 2 years, he wants to be "the man" when he'd be the 3rd option here, and our management wouldn't/shouldn't pay him the money he'll be asking for. It's a pointless rental deal to make Pierce happy, but in the end we'd give up the #5 pick for a guy who doesn't even want to be here. And CelticFan, stop calling out Paul Pierce about making this public. Paul Pierce has not said a single word to the media, it was league sources and his stupid agent.</div>Apparently, he will go public after the draft if no superstar is brought in.http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AsT1...o&type=lgns

Yeah, we know that's what the report said, but until Paul Pierce actually comes out and does this (which I honestly don't think he would/will), I don't know if I believe it.

Your not getting KG or Marion, and your other less than probable prospect is JO, who has a less than 10% chance of coming. Basically, no superstar wants in on Boston. Someone you should pursue, is Jefferson, who is now looking like he will leave, and then again thats not even likely becuase you and NJ are atlantic division rivals. So basically CB, no one wants to come to Boston, I think Pierce understands that and Ainge is the only one that doesn't want to blow it up.

Think what you want, but just because we may not bring in another veteran within the next 24 hours doesn't mean it won't happen this summer period. I highly doubt Paul Pierce comes out and publicly says anything, even if he is thinking about stuff like this. In fact, I can almost guarantee you Paul Pierce doesn't say anything. I'm pretty confident he'll be wearing green next year.

I sooo hope you are correct CB..I'd hate to see a player I admire turn into a jerk.Karl Malone went wacko on me late in his career and it was hard to defend him.. unless you watched him on the court :brucelee:

Boston HeraldThe Boston Celtics say Paul Pierce has not asked for a trade and won't do so if the club doesn't acquire a veteran by Thursday's draft.Director of basketball operations Danny Ainge also said he is unfazed by reports from agents and others that top players are not interested in coming to his club.Link
