Canada's Government a number of years back implemented a National GST (goods & services tax) which really burnt Canadian Citizens as it was a Fed tax upon Fed Tax on top of provincial and city taxes. I believe it was 7% when implemented. I was able to send in Canadian expenditures where I was charged the GST, and after a number of months receive a check.
Alaska does their yearly thing as a way to help families through the harsh winters. It’s used mostly to pay for heating, clothing, etc. That’s what my uncle told me, he lived up there for around 25 years.
That, to me, makes it a LOT less appealing. So poor people don't get extra cash, but me and Jeff Bezos get $1000? Neither of us needs $1000, the disabled single person with 3 kids does. barfo
Maybe that is what he used it for. I dated a girl from Alaska in College who got it while she attended OSU because she was still an Alaskan resident. Her family did not use it for that. That is the beauty of it. You can use it however you please.
What's the appeal? It's paid for via a VAT tax, so you are just taking money out of your pocket and putting it back in the other pocket. I have a simpler plan. Let's double everyone's income tax, and give everybody a 50% refund! Think of what you could do with all that extra money! barfo
Heh. Me too. My big problem with this is that poor people get fucked, because it causes their expenses go up, but they don't get the $1000. Fix that and I might support it. barfo
What about felons who can't find work when they get out of prison? You don't think $1,000 month would help them? My first house was right next to section 8 housing units. I used to hear people living in those homes talking about how they were just going to rob someone because nobody would hire them and they had no other choice.
