QUOTE

Vince Carter apparently is keeping Vinsanity in New Jersey.
The Newark Star Ledger is reporting that Carter, who opted out of the final year of his contract which called for a $16.3 million salary next season, has agreed to a four-year, $61.8 million contract with the Nets. The contract with the team holds an option for a fifth year.
The deal will not be official until July 11 when free-agent deals can be signed.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2922561

Re: Carter reportedly agrees to $61.8 million cont... That is a lot of money and I dont think it is safe to be giving him $15 mil a year. I hope this works out well.
Re: Carter reportedly agrees to $61.8 million cont... I would have preferred a 3 year contract but appereantly its decending so that frees up more money later on.
Since the Nets are over the cap anyway.

Re: Carter reportedly agrees to $61.8 million cont... heh heh
Without Carter, the Nets go into serious rebuilding mode. The cap space would help at that point.
He's probably got 4 years left in him at a decent level.

Re: Carter reportedly agrees to $61.8 million cont... So how many more years are the big three going to be together?
Re: Carter reportedly agrees to $61.8 million cont... Most likely they go into next season with the same group.
If the Nets don't make a deep playoff run next year I believe RJ will be the most likely one to get traded.

Re: Carter reportedly agrees to $61.8 million cont... Vince Carter re-signs with New Jersey (four years, $61.8 million) Short-term A-, long-term B- In retrospect, this was some good poker by Rod Thorn. Carter wanted to stay with the team, so as long as New Jersey didn't make an insulting offer it was going to be able to keep him. Thorn could have overplayed his hand here with a lowball offer, but that would have resulted in Carter's people seeing what Orlando was willing to pay ... and discovering the Magic were ready to fork out the max. Instead, the Nets made a reasonable offer to start things, got Carter at a slight discount, and can stay relevant for the near future.
This deal isn't so bad in the long-term, either. While Carter can be expected to decline over the next few years, the Nets limited their risk by making it a four-year deal rather than five or six. As an added plus, the deal expires at the same time as Richard Jefferson's max deal, so if the Nets want to break out the dynamite in 2011 they'll have plenty of flexibility.

From Hollinger Insider article.
Long term this is an F, short term a A-
