No watermelon during summer is like not having sweet potato pie on Thanksgiving and Christmas, just ain't right. Black folks are f*cking paranoid, especially my mom. I just got my license about a month ago and man everytime I f*cking leave she's paranoid, watch out for police blah blah blah. I ain't like that though.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (noballer07 @ Jun 27 2007, 09:47 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>You still don't understand. I can sit here and debate this with you for hours but with the way you're sounding, you must have some kind of guilt that you're trying to free yourself of as a white person. That doesn't mean that you should downplay slavery like you're doing. You might want to read up on this buddy...you're making this topic more serious than it needs to be.</div>Ugh, give me a break. I'm not even sure that my ancestors had slaves. I understand your idea just fine, but it isn't logical like you claim it is. If a white person said their great-great-great-great-great grandfather was responsible for them being a deadbeat dad, I would laugh in their face. When did I downplay slavery? I just pointed out reasons for why there's no logic behind your argument. Just because you call something logical doesn't make it so, you know. Like I said, tons of other people have been oppressed over the past 130 years, but the ratio isn't as high, right? To me, it sounds more like another, "I got an idea! Let's blame the white folk!" What Pesty says below is actually legit and does have logic.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (tHe_pEsTiLeNcE @ Jun 27 2007, 12:47 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>On the subject on the whole fatherhood thing, one of the big reasons for african americans not being fathers after they knock up a woman is because there are more teenage pregnancies among African Americans, and obviously the father is more likely to leave due to a teenage pregnancy. These teen pregnancies are probably due to the christian religion which is often anti-birth control, as well as lack of adequate sex ed to tell students that a girl using no constraceptives whatsoever has an 80% chance of getting pregnant. I think men of any race will leave if they knock a girl up at 16, there are just more girls knocked up at 13-17 in black society for the previously mentioned reasons.</div>No no, it's 'cause of slavery!

This is not just blaming the white folk. You sound like you're trying to defend yourself and your when there is no cause for you to do so.I'm just going to give you this, since the way I put it isn't logical to you:http://www.gazetteonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll...16045/1002/NEWSThis is basically things that me and the other guy have been saying:<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>In 1965, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, who was then an assistant secretary of labor and later would become a U.S. senator, sounded the alarm over the dissolution of the black family. He blamed slavery and racism for the problem.Slavery split up black families. Jim Crow laws that followed the end of slavery in the late 1800s heaped on humiliation and oppression -- especially for men looking for jobs, Moynihan wrote. Continuing racism in the 20th century condemned millions of black Americans to a cycle of discrimination, poor education and poverty. These forces were causing disaster for black families and therefore disaster for American society, Moynihan concluded. Unemployment, inner-city crime, welfare rates and school dropout rates were climbing as the black family in America imploded. Critics condemned Moynihan's conclusions as racist and sexist. Critics argued the black family was simply evolving, that households run by single mothers were part of an effective social system. They said an insistence on the traditional father figure was white, middle-class, male chauvinist snobbery.Diann Dawson, director of the Office of Regional Operations for the Administration for Children and Families since 1996 and head of the African American Healthy Marriage Initiative, said those criticisms miss the point. It wasn't until the 1970s that black men began in such large numbers to abandon the children they had fathered, she said. Why should women now have to raise their children alone, given that they did not in the 1950s, she asked."For those women, is that by choice? Probably not," she said. She said welfare programs in the second half of the 20th century helped erode families -- and not just for blacks. "In many ways, public policy discouraged marriage," she said.</div>This idea has been repeated over and over again, black and white analysts alike have said it. You don't have to agree, you can just sweep it under the rug like a lot of people are doing, but you can't hide the argument. So Justice, you see, the fact that slavery impacted a large number of African Americans, the so called "trait" that we speak of has been passed down from generation to generation. It is not the same thing as your example of a white guy blaming his great bla blah for being deadbeat. Whites weren't the ones enslaved. It is the same thing as why blacks today have heart issues; we were given salted pork and fatty meals during slavery and it became a staple of our diet in the future. Genetically, high blood pressure and other heart ailments were passed down as well.

I am quite sick of the black culture being one of finger-pointing. I'm sure at some point, people will realize that they can't blame their parents for everything, but I'm not sure in which century that will occur.I never claimed that there weren't people that agreed. I made the point that the logic behind it is flawed. Lack of education is a better and more direct explanation which applies to everyone, not just a person who has colored skin. It's a more practical, reasonable, and logical explanation. I'm not sweeping any argument under the rug, and it is simply asinine to say I am. I have argued against it, and you have provided little reason for me to agree. That is why I disagree. Have you ever had that feeling when something was poorly reasoned and weakly supported and so you replied, "Gee, I don't believe that!" Well, that is the same feeling I have now. It's kinda funny, because both white and black people can disagree with points that are poorly argued without feeling guilty. There are many non-blacks who have gone through things worse than slavery in the past 130 years, and I would laugh in their face if current descendants blamed said ancestors for their problems. It is extremely asinine.

Anybody ever ask a black cop what would happen if he shot an unarmed white boy? I did a few years ago. It was an ugly response.I asked my cousin (DPD) once if she thought that police were the system's answer to street thugs. Walter Mosley had given me that idea in one of his novels I had just read. Thugs for taxpayers. She agreed promptly.

White people can be orange and pink and red and blue and green. And yet black people are referred to as "coloured" (Canadian Spelling).

I do know that you'd be hard pressed to find a group of people, separated by skin-color, who put up with anything like American slavery for 300 years, and then got told their free to get they ass whooped, lynched, imprisoned... And when exactly did black people squirm from under the nasty thumb of oppression in this country? I know you're a history guy. Was it anti-lynching laws? Affirmative Action? Reagan signing MLK's birthday into law? Clinton going out of his way to federally prosecute the officers that beat up Rodney King? If it's a legal thing, alot of legal things countered them as soon as they were signed into law.Cats is talking out of both sides of they mouths on this issue.
