I was a NRA member way back, not anymore. I do believe in the 2nd amendment and own a couple firearms myself, an old hunting rifle that I don't use any more and a pistol. When I was 12 I took hunters safety at the Elks club in Milwaukie and hunted with my dad and uncles. Whenever my wife and I go camping I am prepared, the only time I thought I might have to use it was when some campers had two pit bulls they wouldn't keep on a leash and they kept invading my site and threaten my wife and grandkid. This happened several times and I finally told their owners I would shoot those dogs next time they posed a threat. Problem over. Many of my friends are law abiding citizens that own guns for sport and home security protection.
I had a friend from Idaho who told me about his crazy uncle. Well, this uncle had neighbors who had dogs that barked constantly and snarled at him and his family. One day he leans out the upstairs window and kills one of the dogs with his hunting rifle. He had no more problem with any nasty dogs next door. He seldom saw his neighbors outside from then on as a side benefit.
To many irresponsible people with temperamental viscous dogs. To me when an animal of any kind threatens my family or self I will as a last resort kill it dead as one of my sons used to say, when we went deer hunting.
