The 2 and 3 seeds don't have to be in a play-in game though.

The more teams that make the playoffs the more it devalues the rest of the season.

In the NFL only 12 of 32 teams make the playoffs (37.5%). If we do 7 out of 12 that's 58.3%. To me that's saying you don't have to have a good season or make good moves and you can still make it.

I like creating importance in getting a higher seed. Right now, theres no difference between 3 and 6 and in that cade thered be no difference between 2 and 7.

That's why I like that system.

NFL doesnt equate to fantasy. Eliminated teams are still developing young players and are still putting on a spectacle. Eliminated teams have little to no interest in their matchups mear the end of the season.

That's one of the benefits to having a keeper league, but in reality there isn't much you can do about people out of the playoff race not caring.

I don't think teams should be rewarded for being bad. If you allow 7 teams it's possible some years an under .500 team could make the playoffs.

Didnt you also propose 7-12 are playing for next years pick selection? Isnt that also rewarding the bad teams?

The worst team would most likely be 6th. If there is a consolation bracket with something to play for next year it keeps all teams engaged the same amount of time unless they were quitting the league entirely.

Having more teams in the playoffs makes it more likely that the top teams don't finish in the money, especially since we only pay 3 spots. Whereas with the draft you still have the whole season to play out. It's not even close to the same thing.

In my other leagues (all 12 teams) one of them only 4 teams make the playoffs but if you make it you are guaranteed to get your money back at the least. Another one 6 teams make the playoffs and it pays 5 spots. That is the league where the 6 teams that don't make the playoffs compete for the 1st pick of the rookie draft. It's worked really well for keeping everyone engaged all 16 weeks.

There are outliers, injuries, and bad luck but for the most part the good fantasy players wouldn't consistently miss the playoffs so it wouldn't really be that much of a penalty to have worse players have better draft picks. We could have a rule that a new player has the 6th choice of picks or whatever in place to combat new people playing.

I was kind of just messing around with you.
I think one way to really combat the end of the season having a ton of teams not caring is making the weekly high score payouts higher at the end of the year. That way say you're eliminated from the playoffs by week 8 or something you still have incentives to go make your team better. Like the first x weeks, the weekly payout for a high score is less and it slowly ramps up through the end of the year or something like that.

In the spirit of today's society I vote for everyone making the playoffs with the weekly bonuses being backloaded towards the final playoff weeks :devilwink:

    I've read through the comments.

    I'm in agreement with @hoopsjock.

    6 playoff teams. Consolation bracket.

    Something fun we could do:

If a team in the consolation bracket gets the weekly high score in weeks 14-16, they get an additional $2.50 from every playoff team. Would be taken out of each playoff teams bonus money.

I think thatd be fun. Create a differential between 1 and 2 as well as 3 and 4.

    @BonesJones

Do you know if suspended players are eligible to be put on the IR spot once preseason is over? It seems a little weird that players holding out are eligible to be put on IR already but not suspended or actual injured players.

If I remember correctly from years past. If they are listed with the "O" or "IR" they can be placed on that "IR" spot and can stay there until the team manager makes a move to put them in the lineup/bench. I believe they can stay in the "IR" spot even if they have come off the IR in real life - they can stay til a move is made with them. At least that is what I remember being the case in years past.
