Game Thread 2020 Debate Part 3 - Sept 12

Winners:
Warren: She owns her narrative. She is calm, clear, she has conviction without being shrill and disagrees without rudeness. One of my guests said Bernie shouts, Warren explains.
Harris: Good point on health care, while Democrats argue the details Trump is trying to take it all away. Good stats on Black teachers. In gun violence saying she had seen too many autopsy photos and hugged too many mothers memorable line.
Buttigieg: Story on realizing he could not keep hiding who he was, wanting to find someone to love, personal and resonating. And how when he trusted people they trusted him.
O'Rourke: When asked about guns gave a very forthright answer. I like candidates who don't shilly-shally.
Klobuchar: Does anyone not like her? She's the nice neighbor who can be counted on to take care of your cats and lend you a cup of sugar if you run short.
Booker: Combines results and passion. Reclaiming morals from those who define it in politics as hate gays/outlaw abortion, morals is how you treat others.
Oakland A's: Other side of town, they hung on to beat the top team Astros 3-2 to take three of four on the road.
Tomato salad: More than anything I cooked, tomatoes & basil harvested barely an hour before debate was gobbled. Tossed with shreds of red onion in light vinaigrette, garnished with toasted pine nuts and drizzle of pomegranate molasses. Also lemonade & iced tea on a day when temps reached triple digits.

Losers:
Biden: Not a strong debater, even against Sarah Palin FFS. He meandered, seemed to lose the point, got flustered. Best when asked about getting back up from knock down, I know the story about his family but still shows strength.
Sanders: Just stop shouting.
Yang: Gave a good story about business failure and feeling abandoned by all, aside from that? The idea to give everyone $100 for political/charitable spending only was a total head scratcher. How do you monitor the way 300 million people spend it? Adults only or everyone? Citizens or all residents? Who defines a charity? If someone gives the money to a church, that's state sponsorship of religion. Laws prohibit federal funding for abortion so would I be able to give my $100 to Planned Parenthood? In other words, gimmick.
Castro: It's fine to point out Biden was inconsistent, or that he wants credit for the successes of Obama but no responsibility for errors. But implying Biden is senile is a low blow, it's what Trump would say and probably will every day. Overshadowed everything else he said and might even have cost him a vice presidential nod.

Next debate October 15. Maybe Oktoberfest-theme menu? Sausage, warn potato salad, apple cake?

The only reason these candidates can make any points advocating Medicare for all is, you younger guy have no idea how crappy Medicare is.

As soon as anyone of them is successful pulling this shame off, we have no healthcare system left in this country.

Bernie needs to seriously stop pointing his finger at everyone and shouting with his face scrunched into a frown. I was really annoyed at his presentation so much that it distracted from his msg.....I do believe he's an honest man though...Warren owned the night

 

I'm calling a Biden/Kamala ticket, and it will be a romp. Presidents who poll in the 40s don't get re-elected.

The rest are good to very good. Castro does nothing for me and he came off as mean last night. Booker is inspiring. Mayor Pete is impressive, period. Joe did the best he has so far, which was a relief. Kamla's laughing looked too scripted.

 

I am so glad to hear you are healthy. That is the best way possible to get along with Medicare.

The year Obamacare was implemented, and I lost my retirement healthcare. I was in need of another doctor, because the one I had in Bandon closed his practice as a result of all the new changes. Prior to that I had excellent coverage administered by Etna and provided by my employer. It was a special Medicare supplement package that basically covered all costs, at any time, anywhere. But then without it, I could find no doctor in the county that would take on a new Medicare only patient.

People said, well why don't you just buy the OBama plan???? Ha! Just the other day, my Grandson and one of his buddies were questioning me about this very thing. Is it true you couldn't find a doctor to take medicare, Why didn't you buy the insurance everyone else has??? As I recall, @SlyPokerDog asked me the same question back then. The fact is, no one can sell you insurance when you are over 65 except the Advantage or Medicare Supplement plans. But then to buy that, they must sell it in the county
you live in. And that is a problem. I never did get it fixed that first year, and to get my wife covered (she was on the same plan that we both lost) she had to lie that she lived in Eugene, using our son address to get a Medicare Advantage plan that was now no good
with the doctor she had in Bandon.

The next year, it got a little better with Moda selling us coverage in Bandon. But then before the end of the year, they just sort of quit and the next year, that coverage was gone. Wife was back to lying about Eugene.

I said fuck it! I canceled paying the Medicare Part B premiums and now rely on VA.

I speak with the local Hospital administrator quite often about all this, Medicare payments to providers roughly cover about 2/3 the cost of the care provided and as we have more immigrants coming, using the system, the percentage of full payers is making it difficult to keep the doors open.

 

Elizabeth Warren addressed this problem in detail in the debate....you should vote for her...she wants to make sure every doctor has to accept your insurance anywhere. She actually makes a lot of sense in the health care topic

That is total bullshit. Most would have to close shop. Medicare payments don't cover cost let alone provide profit.

Obama care made that even worse by scaling it back to make the costs of OBama care meet the requirement. Medicare for all takes a crappy underfunded system as the base and then they say you are all in the same sinking fucking boat.

That is dang near as ridiculous as if she ordered every teacher to accept all students that show up at the class room door and you must get them to A level achievement. All of them.

These people running for nomination as the Democrat candidate for President do not seem to have a sound understanding of much of anything?
They are really scary to me that you people would indeed vote for any of them other than Yang. I am not at all sure about him but he has not ruled himself out by demonstrating incompetence.

Again, you guys can fool yourself all you want with that sort of magical thinking, but the FACT is that presidents who poll in the low 40s (at best) do not get re-elected, see. e.g., George Herbert Walker Bush, Jimmy Carter.

 

I agree about they need to vote in those states but they won’t for a democratic socialist. They will for Biden, Klobuchar and Pete.
If ew gets away from the freebee for ticket and finds some common ground with moderates she may too have a good chance. She trying to pry Bernie supports from 4 years ago to her side. That not enough.
Klobuchar as a mid western knows this and will leverage it and she did last night! IMO

 

I thought she was pretty vague in how she going to pay for all the freebies.
