Atlanta should definately do this deal. They'd become a very tough team overnight and I think if they can get Amare, any free agent pg would die to go there(maybe chauncey billups?)
Suns weakness vs San Antonio is not Amare Stoudemire and switching him for Kevin Garnett will not improve the Suns' chances at beating them. The problem they have with the Spurs is that Shawn Marion can not create his own offense. The Spurs used Tony Parker as the primary defender against Marion when the Suns went "big" and Marion was nothing but a mediocre jump shooter. There is no excuse for why Marion did not take advantage of having a guy like Parker (who just isn't good enough to stop him) in favor of floating around the perimeter thinking he is Dirk Nowitzki or something. Put Marion down in the low post have him back Parker down time after time and either force them to switch Bowen on to or to bring over Tim Duncan for the double team leaving Nash or Amare open to get to the basket. Trading for KG will not solve this problem as the Spurs will just do the exact same thing they have done for years, they will let KG have his and will stay on the 3 point shooters effectively making it Nash/KG(Amare) vs. the Spurs
steven a smith and mark jackson said that there back where they were if they give up Amare.Marion should be the one traded.then you got Boris Diaw at Small Forward possibly hes natural position hes never started there yet. KG at power forward picking up all the rebounds with Amare.it would be like Duncan and Admiral
The only thing id like out of this is to see Amare a Hawk, it would defently give him more room to focus on himself as a player and how he can become oh so much better there in terms of offensive production, but overral I really don't think it would work out for the Hawks as it would work out for Suns, ethier it happening in my opinion.
According to the Phoenix media and Ric Bucher this deal has never involved Phoenix in the talks but rather is a discussion between the powers that be in Atlanta and Minnesota on what Atlanta would be willing to give up for each of Marion and Stoudemire which they would then go to Phoenix to see if they would approve.
Deal was all rumors. But if the Hawks could've got Amare, they were right to jump all over it. That makes them a playoff team. And a solid team in the East for years to come.I love their rotation at the 2 and 3 positions with Childress, Smith, Johnson, Williams... am I missing someone? But yeah, all speculation. KG to LA again maybe?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Young Legend @ Jun 27 2007, 04:35 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>But yeah, all speculation. KG to LA again maybe?</div>If you put any stock into the rumor that Glen Taylor has told Minnesota executives to make a KG deal happen there could be a trade later on where Minnesota finally gets off the bong and lowers their expectations as to what they can get in a return. If not a KG deal is highly unlikely due to KG's contract and Minnesota's trade demands. As of right now Phoenix is probably the only team that has the young talent and contracts to make a KG deal work but they do not want to part with Amare Stoudemire and deplete their depth just to land a 3 year rental in KG.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>It is believed that Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor issued a mandate before he left for his honeymoon this week, which was to move Kevin Garnett. If the rumored three-team deal with the Suns and Hawks falls through, don't expect the Wolves to sit tight on KG. It's become clear that the Wolves are ready to lose the centerpiece of the franchise and start over, so it sounds very doubtful that KG will play another game for the team. The only problem is that his contract is so big that moving him is easier said than done.http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpag...3065&spln=1</div>
If Minnesota gets the 3rd, I hope they have different ideas on who to pick...maybe a Yi or Wright, this could help Memphis out, I would love for this to happen. Although the West loses Amare...but ATL will be awesome..atleast awesome highlights.
moving Amare and Getting KG- I dont seee this making them better - I mean Amare is on the up-swing of his career and KG is on th down-swing- thier styles are a little different but not that much that PHX will be better off- it just doesn't mak sense to me!Move Marion that would work!
I was listening to the radio today and they made some good points why this would be good for Phoenix. Of course they dont have the future, but they would get the most hungry player in the NBA. A better defender and somebody who might even fit better in the Phoenix style than Amare does. This kills the Suns future, but if they get KG, they will be able to defend Dirk, Boozer, and even Duncan cause of KG...which Amare did defend well, but KG is a better defender and he can actually play on the perimeter to stop a Dirk Nowitzki or Mehmet Okur...
Amare is very hungry. He's been working his but off because he feels he let the team down, he's so motivated that it's scary. Read Diawsome's post. It won't do us any good unless we get the #1 and Dallas beats San Antonio, but I bet we have to face SA again.
screw the future, everyone is always worried about the future of their franchise.it's a piss poor mentality if you have or almost have the talent to win a title now. If your team isn't in the playoffs or out after the first round.. then yeah, work for the future.if you have a 30+ 2 time MVP who runs your team like a porche and you're a title contender, make the move to get a title!would Suns fans rather be title contenders for the next 2-8 years or title winners for 1 year?

Both me and Diawsome have said why this team even with KG would not win it...I also have that screw the future if you can win now attitude, but it's trade Marion, Barbosa and others for a KG-Amare duo or else build on the team that almost made it. The team we have now has a great chance to win. We just need some quality bench players and D'Antoni needs to start using them. But Amare has been working hard to get better and better. He's very motivated after the Spurs series and I want to see him in a Suns jersey next year because I think he's going to have an amazing season.
The good thing is that the Suns weren't even talking with those teams about this so it's not happening. If they were going to trade Amare, Atlanta would be my 3rd to last choice, behind SA and LA of course.
hey without a doubt he will, but can he stop/slow down Duncan or Dirk in a 7 game series?not 1/2 as well as KG could.that's the hump the Suns face and cannot get by.KG answers that issue.Amare is a great talent and it's a risk for sure, but how bitter will you be if it's 3 years from now, Nash is done and this team doesn't purrrr like it does now without his ability to run the team and there's no title?I can see the logic for keeping a first team NBA player, but I just don't think he'll be able to get the Suns by the Spurs or Mavs (maybe the Mavs, they're not as mentally strong as the Spurs)you'll basically be rooting for every team facing the Spurs in the playoffs or be screwed.
thats a good point why wait - Nash isn't getting any younger! Get something while you can - But KG isn't that big of an Upgrade over Stoudamire.

So trading Amare for KG isn't going to put them on a different level. KG isn't Shaq or Duncan he does not guarantee a championship, he does not even guarantee a series victory against San Antonio but this does guarantee that it kills the future of the organization. Yeah right now KG (31) is better than Amare (24) but Amare (26) is going to be better than KG (33) and you would be paying 25 million per season to keep KG at that point while Amare will be making 16 million.Say you make this trade and 3 years from now when both Nash and KG are no longer able to lead a team and they did not win a single championship in their time together what do you do? You have a roster featuring Leandro Barbosa, Boris Diaw an old Steve Nash, a vastly overpaid Kevin Garnett and a bunch of nobodies. You traded Amare Stoudemire to Atlanta who is now in the prime of his career leading the Atlanta Hawks deep into the playoffs year after year and because of that trade you crippled the value of that 2008 Atlanta draft pick.

Duncan will always get his numbers and if we keep Marion instead of keeping Amare we will continue to be a two-man team against them, except this time with a player who's easier to contain than Amare. Amare isn't a problem against any team we face, Marion is, and he'll give us an equal chance to win as KG will. If we can't get him for Marion I'd try and go after a guy like Camby or trade up in the draft for a big. There's no reason to make any drastic changes. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Amare is a great talent and it's a risk for sure, but how bitter will you be if it's 3 years from now, Nash is done and this team doesn't purrrr like it does now without his ability to run the team and there's no title?</div>How bitter will I be when KG and Nash break down in a couple years with no championship, we have KG and Marion's contracts to deal with and over half a decade of hell while JJ and Amare become a top duo and dominate the East?I don't like the trade...but again, Phoenix wasn't even involved in the Atlanta discussions. And yeah, we are not WAITING! We can win with Amare, he has been amazing in the playoffs with us in his career and will have a great season next year.
