on the defensive end vs the two major problems he is.he can open up the middle for nash and barbosa to drive by hanging outside with more range than Amare and he's a good rebounder, shot blocker and gets steals.Amare is more athletic due to his youth but KG is more versatileit's the intangibles and different way he accomplishes his stats that will make the difference right now.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Diawsome @ Jun 27 2007, 09:48 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Suns are already a title contender with their current roster. So trading Amare for KG isn't going to put them on a different level. KG isn't Shaq or Duncan he does not guarantee a championship, he does not even guarantee a series victory against San Antonio but this does guarantee that it kills the future of the organization. Yeah right now KG (31) is better than Amare (24) but Amare (26) is going to be better than KG (33) and you would be paying 25 million per season to keep KG at that point while Amare will be making 16 million.Say you make this trade and 3 years from now when both Nash and KG are no longer able to lead a team and they did not win a single championship in their time together what do you do? You have a roster featuring Leandro Barbosa, Boris Diaw an old Steve Nash, a vastly overpaid Kevin Garnett and a bunch of nobodies. You traded Amare Stoudemire to Atlanta who is now in the prime of his career leading the Atlanta Hawks deep into the playoffs year after year and because of that trade you crippled the value of that 2008 Atlanta draft pick.</div>well 3 years from now Nash is most likely D-U-N, this team has proven it's 1/3 less better when Nash isn't running it and with Nash in MVP form, a healthy Amare and Marion, you couldn't beat the Spurs.yeah it's safe to keep the youth and contend, but you've already had good chances with the current team and lost.of course getting KG is not guaruntee, but you don't think he'd do much better defensively vs Duncan and Dirk? He's much more confortable guarding futher away from the basket and he's be playing D on Duncan for Duncan's entire career. Amare is still refining the art of playing D (beyond athletic blocks etc)It's a risk sure, but the arguement that it ruins the future is silly IMO. Your teams best chance is now!KG makes a difference to this team

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (CelticFan @ Jun 27 2007, 08:38 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>hey without a doubt he will, but can he stop/slow down Duncan or Dirk in a 7 game series?</div>KG can't do a much better job that Amare on Duncan, and he wouldn't do as good of a job on Dirk as Marion does.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I can see the logic for keeping a first team NBA player, but I just don't think he'll be able to get the Suns by the Spurs or Mavs (maybe the Mavs, they're not as mentally strong as the Spurs)</div>I think he can, and should have this year. For the past 2 seasons Amare has played (not including 05/06) he has absolutely destroyed both the Mavs and Spurs. It is Marion who has been the problem, choking in the playoffs, getting burned by the likes of Odom and Parker, can't create his own shot, etc... Amare is perfect with the Suns, and offensively is probably more of a force than KG (remember, he averaged 30PPG when Nash was out this year). If this deal was to be done, then the Suns would slightly improve, but their title hopes would be right about where they are now. It would be smarter to build around the current team they have, and keep the future in Amare, rather than get real old real fast, and not much better. Now, if Marion was the one shipped off, that instantly puts the Suns as the title favorites IMO. A starting lineup of Nash/Bell/Diaw/Amare/KG is very, very scary. They get more rebounding, better interior defense, a far better scoring threat, and a better passer in KG.

Not against the Spurs. Like I said, we'd still have a two man team.Vs. Minnesota this season, Duncan scored only 2 less points in 4 less min played and he made his field goals 16% more often. Great job KG! Also, with D'Antoni running the show it's not likely that we'll suddenly become a great defensive team. It would be more productive to keep a great team together and add a shotblocker. Amare can dominate the Spurs D, and he's shown that. Garnett shoots BELOW 40% against the Spurs. The Spurs will look even better defensively while the Suns won't be much different.

The Suns problem when Nash isn't on the floor is that they never run the ball through Amare. Every play is Barbosa or Diaw driving to the basket and either attempting a shot (Barbosa) or passing out for a 3 (Diaw -> Bell/Marion). If they would learn to run the offense through Amare it would help keep Nash on the bench longer and would keep the Suns offense running. There are better less expensive moves you could do to bring in players that could defend the likes of Duncan. Marcus Camby, PJ Brown, Rasheed Wallace etc... while not as good as KG defensively would all be quality defenders who cost 3-4 times less then KG and wouldn't require trading Amare. Plus Amare is improving defensively, he has become a solid weakside help defender/shot blocker and showed glimpses of his potential as a man-to-man defender which should come along as he matures.

well no duh, keeping Amare and trading Marion is the better deal.but do you think the Wolves and/or hawks go for it?not when they think they have a shot at Amare.again, why wait for the future? who's gonna run the team as well as Nash?he's the system in Pheonix. He's the reason they went from interesting team to watch, to one of the top 3 teams in the league.Once his window is gone, they're chances dimish a lot more than losing Amare.KG's intensity will be a big boost to the team and again, he can D up Duncan and Dirk better than Amare or Marion. You have to realise he won't be just the focal point of the team like he was in Minny and won't have to worry about scoring all the big baskets alone. He can put more energy into D if needed (and it will be)

WE ARE NOT WAITING DAMMIT! :P And they don't have a shot at Amare, the Suns said they weren't trading Amare for KG. And KG wants out, hey he did say he would sign with LA or PHO for the MLE if they don't trade him next year...at least that's what SI said. Hmm...

When Nash slows down in a few years the Suns would have the cap room to make a play for a PG like a Kirk Hinrich or Deron Williams (just using names as an example). Or better yet they have Atlanta's unprotected 1st rounder next year in a draft that looks to be loaded with point guards (Derrick Rose, OJ Mayo, Eric Gordon, Darren Collison, Jerryd Bayless....).As good as Nash is it is easier to replace the point guard position then it is to replace the pf/c position. By the time that Nash is no longer able to lead a team players like Amare and Barbosa will be in their primes and more then capable of taking over as the leaders of the team.

hey it's a safe approach. one that most teams take.I just believe KG's drive would really help this team get past the Spurs or Mavs and get the Suns to the finals.I know another suns fan who preached all year on another board that the Suns would get by the Mavs and Spurs. They had their best shot this year due to the Mavs bowing out, but they still cannot beat the Spurs.I don't see that changing next year, barring an injury to the Spurs big 3.

Amare is already a better scorer than KG, a 10RPG guy, and still improving. KG is better right now, but not so much better that he'd make a big difference against the likes of SA and Dallas. I'd rather keep Amare and build around the core they have now. When nash's window closes, Amare will be in his prime and they can build a team around him, whereas KG will be way past his prime.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>KG's intensity will be a big boost to the team and again, he can D up Duncan and Dirk better than Amare or Marion. KG won't be guarding Dirk because if he does, the Mavs will rip them apart down low. If he guards Duncan, he wastes too much energy and risks foul trouble. KG won't be a huge boost if they trade away Amare.PS- had it not been for Amare's suspension and Nash's bloody nose in game 1, the Suns would have had a GREAT chance of winning the SA series. They probably WOULD have won it IMO.

Wait guys, didn't you hear...KG said he'd opt out and take the MLE next year. :-D So we could have that KG-Amare duo eventually.I hope we can find a way to trade Marion for him tomorrow though. It would really make my summer.

Even though the Suns have never been in the discussion ESPN is reporting that Atlanta is killing the potential 3 team deal because of the dispute among their 2 party front office, one side wants the deal and the other does not they need to get their sh*t together  <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The Minnesota Timberwolves' attempts to get a great deal for Kevin Garnett hit a major roadblock on Wednesday afternoon, sources told ESPN.com.According to multiple sources, the Timberwolves have been talking to multiple teams about finding a third team to help facilitate a Garnett trade. As ESPN.com reported on Tuesday evening, Minnesota was looking to acquire Atlanta's No. 3 and No. 11 picks in the draft along with several cap-friendly contracts from the Hawks and Phoenix Suns. To participate, Atlanta wanted Amare Stoudemire from Phoenix. On Wednesday, sources say one of the Hawks owners vetoed a hypothetical deal for Stoudemire. The Suns claim to have never had any direct contact with the Hawks about a deal. While they have shown strong interest in acquiring Garnett, the deal never reached a stage where they were asked by either team to give up Stoudemire and never offered him in a trade. While teams like the Lakers and Suns will continue to pursue Garnett, and the Wolves seem intent on trading him, sources say that it's unlikely a deal goes down by the time of the draft. The latest drama in the KG saga shows some of the perils of dealing with the Hawks -- arguably the most dysfunctional franchise in the league. The Hawks ownership group, Atlanta Spirit LLC, is embroiled in a nasty lawsuit with former partner Steve Belkin. Belkin won a lawsuit against Atlanta Spirit LLC last summer and a judge ruled that he could buy out the owners of Atlanta Spirit and gain full ownership of the team. Atlanta Spirit is currently appealing the ruling. In the meantime, Belkin holds some authority over the team. He can veto any trade or free agent signing that takes the team above the NBA salary cap. Several sources suggested that it was Belkin who vetoed the trade. This fiasco isn't the only situation the Hawks are dealing with. Sources said that Hawks general manager Billy Knight is in a dispute with some of the Hawks owners over who to take at No. 3. Knight prefers Florida's Al Horford. Some in the Hawks ownership, including influential owner Michael Gearon Jr., want to draft Yi Jianlian out of China. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2919016</div>

Hey Diawsome, you see the D-Backs pitchers getting out of jams all night? We are getting so many lucky breaks. It's nice.I'm relieved. But if we don't get KG we still better get something done. If we trade KT then I don't see Camby coming, but I'd be happy with Hill. Damn it would be nice to get a shot blocker though. PJ isn't one, no Camby/Horford/Noah....maybe, then who? [IMG]

Brandon Webb shutting down those bums from LA  As far as the shot blocker he may not be a big name and he is the defintion of a project but I would like to see the Suns move up in the 2nd round to take Herbert Hill out of Providence. I could see him being someone like Steven Hunter with an improved work ethic and better hand-eye coordination.

You mean he can block shots, catch rebounds AND make dunks? :P Steven Hunter bugged me. I'd like to see the Suns break the trend of drafting small and get a guy like that.
