https://lebronwire.usatoday.com/2019/09/20/nba-passes-new-traveling-rules-to-define-gather-step/ Details still to come, but it sounds like they're changing the travel rule to focus on the point when dribbling stops rather than when the player's second hand touches the ball. Feels like they're just adding in more layers of subjectivity to me, and I expect this to be a spectacular failure.
@dviss1 ?? Anything that makes it more difficult for Harden to get away with traveling is fine with me.
Now they need to start calling palming the ball. I was amazed last year how many players including Dame palm/carry the ball. At least what I was taught palming ball.
That's so often the problem. They correct one aspect but sometimes add 2 or 3 more grey areas. Choose a rule, be consistent and play the game. Players can adjust if they are more black and white as well as consistent rules.
Been away coaching. I'll read up on this. It may trickle down to the lower levels too. Rules tend to do that.
OMG should I try to make it to the NBA now??? Are they gonna let me call traveling now??? Dumbasses.... This is how it's always been called from NCAA on down. Finally they'll call it in the NBA... Suuuuuuuuuurrrrrre.... I'll believe it when I see it. If it happens, it's DEFINITELY because the referees pushed for it.
It's one of the harder calls to make. You have to be watching 4 things at once on a pick and roll play.
Its when my two year old gives up mid step because she didnt get what she wanted so she needs to flop around on the floor like a dying fish for a while. So it does kind of sound like an NBA move...
A full step is move one leg then the other. A half a step is move one leg. Did you need instructional video on that?
I almost read the last part of the thread title as "gathering." Like the Highlander series, there can only be one!
