calvin, you did not answer the question. It's OK if you don't know. But I can't be the problem, I am not offended.
Had to go back and check (care so little about your posts). Do all black people find the same things offensive? No. Thanks
Yes i do. I know blackface offends black people. You should try google. It’s this cool thing where you type in questions and what not and it leads you to great information. You go to www.google.com.
All of them? I know of at least one that is sort of like me, in the sense, that she is not offended, but she wonders why people do it. Me too.
Why isn't Hollywood pissed and calling over Kimmel? or that other late night host for doing it, because they know it was done not to offend but be silly. I think the important thing is that people learn from their mistakes. As a independent voter, this political correctness and identity politics is just way to overboard and legalistic.
20 something years ago my wife and I went to a halloween party. There was a white couple dressed as Alfalfa and Buckwheat. The wife was basically imitating Eddie Murphy from SNL. I would hate to think that lady would hear the wrath all these years later because of that.
For the sake of argument, I’m not sure that blackface in Canada is the same as blackface in America. Yes. Racism exists everywhere, but it is my understanding that Canada is (or at least was) a much less racist place than America. I could very well be wrong, but I don’t think it’s particularly fair to project our country’s take on the offensive nature of “blackface” on another country. We don’t live there. What matters is what we do in THIS country. And the indignation stirred up by the American media is arrogance personified. We’re the last country that should be castigating another country for racism.....let Canada deal with the “problem”, assuming they actually see it as one....we have our own racially challenged “leader” to to grapple with.
Trudeau apologizes as he admits to doing wrong. I'm going to have to say that Canadians have the same take on the matter as we do.
You're like fly paper but I know how to get you off my back, I surrender. Happy? A spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down.
Good points. I covered Canada for 30 years getting to know people there extremely well and have lots of friends and business associates up there. Manitoba West there are not many African Canadians at all, but they have lots of Zek'es and Chinese in BC. Unfortunately the Canadians are no different than many Americans in that racism exist about the groups I mentioned. In fact you get several pints of high test Canadian beer or Rye Whisky and Canadians can get just as belligerent as Americans. Even many Western Canadians cant stand Quebecers and are not to friendly about Newfoundland, or what they refer to as Newfy's. I had a business associate from Atlanta that was a great friend travel with me for a week across Western Canada and he was really taken back at the practically zero African Canadians he witnessed. He is African American. Canadians are great people but they are not without flaws just like every race or Nationality.
When I was in the Army back in about '68, I knew of about five or six guys that went up to Vancouver B.C. just to hit the bars and see the sights. Well, they got more than they bargained for and got jumped by a much larger group of Canadians who beat the shit out of them such that they wound up in the infirmary for some and in the hospital for a couple of them.
