It's the number needed in the house of representatives. It will never pass the senate though.

It's the number of votes needed for a majority in the House if everyone is present. A majority vote on Articles of Impeachment would move the issue to the Senate for a trial. Two-thirds of the Senate would have to vote to convict the President and remove him from office.

    In other words...not happening.

What was interesting today is I was listening to a report that said one of the republican senators said that if it was a blind vote rather than be an open vote he said he knew of at least 30 senators that would vote for impeachment. It just shows how spineless and chickenshit they are. these people are suppose to be representing the people of their state, not the president.

Which also means that maybe they know the people of their state dont want the impeachment and would vote them out if they did it.

It seems pretty logical that, that is the case actually. If they vote the way that they “want too”, it would piss off their constituents, and would cause them to lose office.

It is completely logical from a selfish point of view. However they took an oath to the constitution, not to their reelection.

Sure but the question was, about if they were representing their constituents or the president. Obviously they believe that their constituents want them to vote one way or another, or they’ll be next to lose their jobs.0

Logic says they are to scared of the wrath of the orange glo man as he is one of the most childish vindictive people on earth.. Many can actually lose their job anyway as this senate group is virtually worthless with Moscow Mitch leading the way. What would be funny is trump winning the election but the dems win control of the house and the senate.

Whats Trump going to do to their jobs if he’s impeached though.

Very good barf! Thus they know they serve at the pleasure of their constituents. Dang they don't want to have to vote!
That is truly a huge part of the impeachment proceed. In fact it is the ultimate due process.

I saw that too. Remember John McCain's slogan " country first"? Current Republican slogan is "Trump first". Profiles in cowardice.

I also don't want Biden nominated, but I want voters to make the decision.

If a first term Congressperson has the juice to take down a president, all I can say is Ocasio- Cortez 2028.

Is that something that can be done? I don't know why it has to be a public vote.

435 members in the House. That's how I guessed that it was the number required for impeachment.

Secret ballot is for citizens when voting to protect us from coercion or retaliation. The Senate are our elected representatives. We absolutely should be able to see how they vote. Problem isn't public voting, it's Senators grovelling in fear of a nasty tweet or criticism on Fox.

I mean, you may be right, but I still mostly believe the fear is what the ones who vote for them will do, more than what Trump, or Fox will do. I think if they all thought they could vote a certain way and their constituents would still vote for them, I don't think they'd care what Fox said. Again you may be right, not sure.

The way I see it, the Republicans in the Senate are going to be watching the House proceedings carefully and doing some calculus as to whether the SS Trump is going to be seaworthy and if staying on board amid the hubbub of all of this is going to scuttle their own chances at reelection. You know that there's a centrist element of Republican senators and, if the math is saying that they need to abandon ship, it could be that they leave Trump and the right wingers to go down with the ship.

There's a lot of drama that's going to play out in the House between now and then, however, and I'm still not convinced that they really have to goods on Trump sufficiently pinned down to take him out.
