I really like their new coach, he’s got them playing hard and competing. So close. Hope they give him time and I hope he gets that program going again.
They could have rolled over and played dead at halftime. I was impressed how they kept fighting. That's the attitude needed to turn the program around.
Anyone read Clownzanos article on the OSU football budget? If they are going to be consistently underfunded and unable to compete with football program, they should consider a move (football only) to Mountain West. It does'nt seem fair to the players and fan base to always put them in position to fail because of budgetary restrictions.
Didn't stop their baseball program from multiple national championships though...something that the Ducks seem to have a problem with even though they're flush with money
Oh I know, I wasn't trying to slam OSU as I respect their teams and programs. Thast's not my style, Ive never been a beaver hater, Im a college football fan first. I have kidsa d grandkids that went to both and the OSU kids are thinking for football they'd be better matched in the Mountain West conference which is a very good conference, versus always being put in a position to fail in the Pac12 w/football. It would be similar to Colorado & Colorado State. Its ok for some schools to play 1 sport in a different conference, if its best for the program. Funding for a football program is critical for any school in the PAC12. When I played city league fast pitch softball teams often played up or down depending where they fit competitive wise. Its was good for teams moral to be competitive and kept the teams from losing interest.
as a Duck fan, I'll say this: if the Ducks had a WR as good as Hodgkins (nobody close that isn't injured), and a RB with the patience, vision, and cutting ability of Pierce, the Ducks would be 4-0 right now and in the top-10. OSU has a good, accurate QB who plays with poise; a premier WR skilled at gaining separation; and a good RB. That's really all it takes to have a good college offense if the OLine is competent. The Beavers have all that. Meanwhile, the Ducks have a great QB, a pair of blind, impatient RB's, and a set of average, at best, WR's. That's why they sputter on offense. Right now, the Beaver offense is better than the Duck offense.
Clownzano is a tool. Just because that total loser Gary Andersen couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag, doesn't mean we can't win at Oregon State - the two coaches before Gary did it consistently. Smith will get us there, just painful close calls at the moment. If you think we have a disadvantage with resources now (we do), it's nothing like when Riley first got there in 1997.
I rather liked the days when OSU pretty much competed with kids from Oregon. A few from Washington or Idaho, perhaps a Californian. Tommy Prothro was coach in my day, I think we had two from outside Oregon.
