I think I speak for most of us, when looking at this particular group and seeing the individual skillsets these guys have, this is a talented team. The "new" guys...it will be cool to see what they actually bring. Mario....Baze.....Ant....GaryTrent..all look like potential contributors. Which got me thinking...has there ever been a player you thought was gonna really be something, but oh were you ever wrong...(not talking. Greg Oden here) Mine...was Elliott Williams a few years back. Thought he had perennial all star written all over him.. Anybody else miss?
I was drinking the Darius Miles Kool-Aid when he was traded here. I thought maybe he had figured things out but despite being so athletically gifted he just wasn't a very savvy player. Then he started having knee problems and when his athleticism started to go he had no other part to his game.
I thought we stole the CP3 trade, and that Martell and Jack were the second comings of Ray Allen and Terry Porter. After we drafted Roy I thought those three would make a perfect 1-3 combo.
Walter Berry - was so excited when he dropped to #14 to the Blazers, but then a complete bust after being the college player of the year at St. Johns. Only lasted 3 years in the league. Very happy were able to dump him for Kevin Duckworth.
Q Woods. But the most embarrassing one I thought would turn out to be starter quality was Ha Sin Jin. And I’m the only one left on Meyers Island. I still think he’s going to be a very good backup or competent starter in the next couple seasons (for someone else). My homer run strong!
Good question. I would have to say Martell Webster for me. Didn’t think all star but thought long productive career.
I honest to God thought the trade for Damon Stoudamire was genius and that Stoudamire was going to be a “next level” star. This despite having seen his one dimensional, hot dog dad Willie play too many times to count. I shoulda been smart enough to know that the chickens would come home to roost......still wiping the egg off my face.
Did you think he'd be better, or worse? Cuz he did pretty well for the 25th pick. But he also perpetually felt like an under-achiever.
That 1986 draft for the Blazers was crazy though because they also took Arvydas Sabonis and Drazen Petrovic.
