I think @TorturedBlazerFan is absolutely right. Steve Kerr is being disingenuous. Furthermore, the response by the NBA has been shockingly obsequious. Here is a good listen on the subject: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podca...0/I6hMDtoFBslgSimSOWmLEhsMbGjJE_lG478ySD-1Zjs
I listened to that podcast this morning. The guy definitely understands the complexities of the situation and understands the cultural sensitivities quite well.
I see. I thought he was a diplomat. Funny how his father was a world-traveling scholar, and now his son is a bubble-living hypocrite. He hasn't said that. In fact, like you, he's gone off on some "orange man BAD!" rant every chance he's gotten. Oh pull your fucking Huggies up. You Liberals do not have the monopoly on morality and facts in this country, so get over yourself. There is NO FACTS when it comes to gun control, especially when they come out of Michael Bloomberg's asshole instead of someone like Massad Ayoob, who has spent his entire life teaching and studying the issue of firearms and self defense. And if Kerr was so concerned with gun safety, he'd go join up and volunteer with the Eddie Eagle program for Gun Safety, or he would teach firearms classes about gun safety. But no.....he cares about gun CONTROL, not gun SAFETY, and you fucking know it. My grandfather served in the Army and fought with distinction in Korea, in fact, he was decorated with Valor for it....but that doesn't give me grounds to speak on issues of being in a war zone or being a soldier, any more than Kerr has grounds to speak on gun control. But I will say this: I've spent the past 15 years of my life studying firearms, firearm laws, ammunition, and the Use Of Force Continuum....I would destroy Kerr in a debate about guns in this country, and I don't even consider myself an expert. Having a father who was assassinated (and I'm sympathetic to him for that) no more makes him knowledgeable on firearm issues than having a sister makes me knowledgeable on women's issues. But all of this is besides the point. He can't get pissy about Trump's supposed infringements on people's rights and Trump being a PRESUMED dictator every chance he gets.....and then willfully play the "well, the world is a grey place" deflection card when confronted about China's VERY WELL KNOWN and FACTUAL brutality and communist dictatorship. It doesn't work that way. The man is a hypocrite and an elitist who picks and chooses facts based on feelings instead of logic. And he absolutely deserves to be shamed for it. This. And I find it funny that of all the people in the NBA, only Kerr and Pops are insecure about the President, which is proof that 1) they shouldn't be taken seriously about anything, and 2) TDS is real. Take out gang shootings and that number drops by half. It's even more startling when you realize that guns account for less than 1% of the total number of deaths in this country per year.
"insecure about the President" I see republicans are all glomming on to this phrase wrt Kerr and Pop. Hilariously stupid.
Sorry, but when you equate the President of the United States with being a dictator, yet you conveniently ignore ACTUAL dictators who are trying to ACTUALLY control you.....then yes, you are INSECURE about the President. I'm not sure how else I'm supposed to interpret that....
Only the New Territories we’re leased, Hong Kong island was not, it was ceded to the UK after the Opium Wars. The UK did not have to hand back Hong Kong island. My guess as to why the UK did hand back Hong Kong island is because without the New Territories, the island did not have the infrastructure to function, and maybe because the UK feared China would go to war over the island.
Proving my point, thank you. No rational or logical reasoning.......just a bunch of crying and sarcastic comments about "Orange Man". I'm starting to wonder the age group of some people here.....
Either we can talk about China and the NBA or we can continue to bitch about each other and I'll move the thread to the OT section.
I've said what I'm gonna say, and quite frankly my interest is waning, so I'm gonna bow out. Have fun.
This in not the history as I've understood it....I was told they had a lease on HK island and it ran out...I was in Taipei when they turned it over...don't ever remember any British media saying anything except the lease is up....the BBC was the station covering the event and Star TV network run by Rupert Murdoch https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Handover_of_Hong_Kong....from what I've read so far they had meetings starting in 1984 to try to get HK officials some power in the way the island was run....China agreed to 50 years of HK administration to transition...now they've broken that part of the agreement that Thatcher had worked for. 97% of Kowloon, Hong Kong and the New Territories were covered under the act...China has a history of breaking these agreements...they did it with the Spratly Islands concerning Vietnam, Phillipines and Taiwan as well...
@riverman This article covers the issue. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sino-British_Joint_Declaration
