I agree. I have kids and grandkids that are OSU alumni and they are open for a change to another conference like the Mountain West (they not to shabby) as the fit is much better with schools more their size and similar budgets Im guessing. I know this is heresy to many, but to continue down this path with football is really anti productive, imo. The fans deserve their moneys worth. It would still be division one.
the SEC has their own set of doormats and "sure" wins. Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Arkansas, Tennessee....those teams have been generally bad for a decade or more. Every once in a while they'll have a good team that gets to a minor bowl game, but they never really challenge for a division title to be sure, the SEC is better in football than the Pac-12 (and some other sports); they are much better managed (Larry Scott sucks donkey balls) and in a recruiting hot-bed the Pac-12 probably fucked up big-time several years ago when they had the opportunity to add Texas, Oklahoma, Ok. State and maybe Texas A&M. Those teams were willing and ready, but the Pac-12 balked at the idea that Texas could keep a portion of their own revenue from their TV deal. Big mistake. And that's even though the conference already had unequal revenue sharing and still does. Imagine the Pac-16 with two divisions of the left coast teams from Cal, Oregon, Wash.; and the 8 teams from non-pacific coast states. Would have been wildly interesting and entertaining
I’m betting Tennessee Arkansas and Kansas would compete in the PAC 12 but I see your point here. Also the SEC has 14 teams so there is that.
No reason to get impatient. This may not be the Beavers century, but who knows what might happen in the 2100s. OSU is pretty decent at robotics, they may be able to field a good team. barfo
I am always proud of my Beaver days, although I guess I never think of myself as an alum. Played a football and basketball as freshmen were permitted in that time. Coaches Gill in Prothro, love every minute of it in the time I was permitted there, before I needed to joint the Navy. Long story, another day. I haven't been much of a follower for several years now, as I am not a fan of teams mostly recruited out of State. I sort of look forward to what may shake out of restructuring forced by California paying players. I can't see the Pac12 continuing. I would be in favor of OSU returning to the days being competitive with Oregon kids on the field in a league where that made sense.
