It can be Zach coming off the bench though. And even off the bench we are talking for around 28-30 minutes if he plays both positions.
Sometimes being better at basketball comes before positional fit. Especially when we are not talking about a position that is unknown to him. He has played it a lot in his career. He is better at C, but he can play PF too.
I think Whiteside is just a one year thing and there is 20 minutes to fill behind Nurk. There is also minutes to fill behind any PF. Or course Zach can do it as well, but he needs to improve a lot. They are on different level right now. As for the starting PF we need one since Aldridge left, no luck there. I also don't see anyone gettable that is accepted by everyone. When people complain about Love and Griffin I don't really know what they expect. There is not many available.
Sure, i would like to know though what would make me look foolish? Will he reach lets say 15 points/8 rebounds and good D? Post some good advanced stats because the raw ones don't pop out? Right now those stats seem a ceiling for the year and this is miles away from what Love, Griffin or Aldridge can do. So this wouldn't really make me feel foolish.
I guess if you could get Sabonis and then trade Whiteside for Love or Griffin, you have a 3 big lineup of Nurk/Griffin/Sabonis. That's pretty good. But I think Collins is better at playing power forward.
What the hell is going on? We haven't won a game YET??? Screw it! Trade the whole team!!! Edit: FUCK getting Kevin Love. That's some retarded shit right there....
We don't know yet what we'd sign him for. The Blazers won't likely have significant cap space for at least 6 years now with the Dame and CJ extensions so they'll have to be creative in ways to add and retain talent during that time. The free agent center market just isn't like it used to be. I'd be surprised if Sabonis gets more than $15 million per year. There is still one more year of paying Collins on his rookie deal after this one. If Nurk, Collins, and Sabas formed a really good big man trio, which I think they would, then I don't think they'd have too much invested in those three. If Simons develops, we'd have both a great 3 man guard rotation and a really solid 3 man big rotation. That just leaves filling in the wings as the only weakness. Assuming the Blazers want to keep Hood they can offer around $10 million to him this summer. Bringing in Sabonis now also allows the Blazers to trade Whiteside for a wing before Nurk is back. Fill in the roster with vets like they did this summer and I think it's fine to pay Sabonis.
I would take Sabonis playing PF next to Nurk 100% of the time over either Love or Aldridge playing PF at this stage in their careers. That's also why I still believe Zach can play PF because his lateral quickness is better than all of those guys.
Collins will be better defensively than all 3 players you mentioned. And let's not pretend that this year is his prime or ceiling. He is only going to get better. But yeah, let's give up a young lengthy defensive stud with an improving offensive game for no defense, old, often injured Love.
Mostly against a weaker conference, playing a different role, under a different coach and system. I may regret saying this, but i think Collins can be championship caliber role player. He is the guy who talks trash, gets 4 blocks in a bigtime playoff game, hits the open 3, gets the other team's star in heated feuds\techs. Sabonis is a nice player for a nice team. He doesn't complement our other players mentally or defensively imo.
Also, if his last name wasn't Sabonis, and his dad's name wasn't Arvydas, this wouldn't be brought up.
As someone who has pushed hard for this trade.......you are correct. Arvydas is not only my favorite Blazer but my favorite NBA player ever.
i did not say that so you make no sense. Zach is good backup and I also said i prefer we wouldn't give up Zach even for Sabonis. But if we get Griffin AND Sabonis then of course i would give Zach yesterday.
