I'm not a veteran myself but I sure do appreciate the discounted candy all the stores have for Veterans Day.

    True story.
One day in 1969 right after getting out of the Army, I had parked my car at the Stadium Fred Meyer to buy some groceries. I brought my check book because I didn't have cash. I had just returned from shopping and was headed to the basement area where my car was parked when I encountered a Vet handing out paper poppies. He handed me a poppy and then asked for a donation. I said that I didn't have any cash on me but that I was just out of the Army with a disability from overseas combat. I was walking with a cane at the time. Without saying a word he grabbed the paper poppy out of my hands and walked away. I was left standing there with my mouth agape.
