This thread is for real hip hop cats that know the meaning of digging in the crates. Funk, funky r&b, and rock carried hip hop music through some tough times early on. You know what them cats sampled?First thing that comes to mind is Nas' classic, "Life's a bi*ch." It's a great song, but it ain't even close to the song it sampled - The Gap Band's "Yearning for Your Love."http://youtube.com/watch?v=LiOgh8nAG5AI feel the same thing about Jay-Z's "The Takeover." No way is it competitng with the doors "Five to One."
Givin Up The Nappy Dug Out by Ice Cube & Definition Of A Thug Nigga by 2Pac sample Black Moon's, Buck Em Down even though Buck Em Down samples somthing else from a long time ago..which I have no idea of right now, I have quite a lot of songs that have been sampled by older hip hop songs, it's intresting because most people wouldn't expect hip hop beats from the past to be sampled with new ones, but there is quite a lot.Words I Manifest by Guru & DJ Premier, which is one of the first Jazz-Rap songs ever is sampled by A Night In Tunisia by Miles Davis & Charlie Parker which is a Jazz classic.

It sampled a performance of "Wind Parade" by Donald Byrd.</div>Thanks for that info! The single off commons new album contains quite a few samples, vocals and the instrumental featured.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>"The Game" is the second single from rappper Common's 2007 album Finding Forever. It is produced by Kanye West, who samples "Tezeta" by Ethiopian jazz musician Seyfu Yohannes for the track's beat. It also features scratches of O.C.'s "Half Good, Half Sinner" performed by DJ Premier. With its hard hitting steel drums, the beat is considered to be a throwback to 90's boom bap hip hop.</div>very cool song, I just thought of it so I couldn't resist posting about it.
You know what I'd like to see is a rapper sampling from Ettiene Mbappe. That guy is so talented and original.
A lot of jazz inspired hip hop is sampled from older jazz, or older stuff in general. Can I Kick it by ATCQ was sampled by a song I don't remember. Anyways, a helluva lot were.
