Funny thing happens to me sometimes. I talk to people outside of this forum about the Blazers. I kind of have to remind myself they are not in one group or another on S2 and i actually have to listen to what they say to get what they think. Then because it's face to face i don't call them a "fucking moron" or "Stupid".

    Funny how that works......

Anyone would be crazy not to have their expectations drastically reduced now that 60% of the preferred starting lineup is out for the rest - or most - of the season. The starting lineup is still pretty good but where this hurts us the most is the bench. It's an absolute clusterfuck. Our bench doesn't have a single big deserving of any minutes other than garbage time, a single PG who's a playmaker, and not one guy on the bench who we can rely on every night. Not a single one.

Not having Nurk and Collins is obviously a death-blow to our defense, but not having Nurk on offense is arguably just as important. Whiteside can put up stats and he's a perfectly fine NBA starter, but the pick and roll, movement, passing, etc that Nurk gives our offense has really been on display this year.

So that makes me sad, not mad.

What makes me mad is watching the team continually shooting jump-shots - usually contested or off-balance - without even trying to get to the basket. Or watching ridiculous, unforced turn-overs, even by our all-NBA superstar. Or missed lay-ins and three-footers. Or watching someone, who has miraculously made two shots in a row, think that means they need to shoot a heat-check within the first 8 seconds of the shot-clock. Or watching the other team get easier shots than they were during warm-ups as we stand and watch. Or watching our players try to thread a pass in between three defenders. Just because a teammate makes a hard cut doesn't mean they're automatically open (!!). How do we not understand that due to the physics of our universe, the ball will not simply pass through the defender just because you want it to? I understand you're excited that a teammate is actually moving off the ball but you still have to think rationally. Or watching in wonderment as the team, which is ice-cold from outside, decides to double-down on what's not working and shoot even more unassisted jump-shots while the rest of the team takes the opportunity to catch their breath, or take a sip of beer from someone in the front row. It doesn't matter who's out there, they've all somehow made it to the NBA. They should understand concepts I learned when I was five such as boxing out or keeping one eye on your man and one on the ball. So watching me-first, lazy, disjointed, reckless, uncontrolled basketball, like we did in the 2nd half last night, can and should be criticized (although some just go way overboard and sound like children).

So my expectations are lowered, at least until we have a healthy Nurk, AND I'm mad that they're not playing up to the potential they clearly have.

Are we allowed to be angry at the GM for signing players like Hezonja and not signing a backup PG?

Would a "Global Moderator" start a thread that would be anything less than this? Job security!

They've had an open roster spot the entire season to address the injuries though. We'll see what happens if they apply for the Disabled Player Exception and after Sunday when most of the league can be traded.

so then, Hood's salary is slightly less than 5.72M. So the Blazers could sign a player for about 2.86M or trade for a player making about 2.96M (does all that 'added' salary count against the tax?)

I doubt there's any free agent worth more than the vet minimum. I have no clue is any player worthwhile could be realistically added in a trade for a salary that low. Maybe...would Portland discard their standards for a player like Wilson Chandler who should be coming off suspension soon?

Well they'd have two roster spots if they get that exception. If they use those spots or not will go a long way to showing their hand if the organization is giving up on the season or not. Obviously I don't think they want the tax implications but it also may force their hand to add players because of the injuries.

I mentioned this in another thread but Brooklyn is going to have to waive someone in a few days when they activate Chandler. It's looking like it might have to be a decent player that could fit the parameters of the DPE so the Blazers could put a waiver claim on that player if they do cut them.

I don't think I have ever seen you post something that would be considered negative about the team. And for good reason.... you know these guys.

Do you have any evidence to support your claim that you were a blazer fan in utero?

Man would it be cool if it was Ed Davis. I know... Not realistic but it would be cool.

Well he predicts pretty low and he never runs expectation too high. And he is a Laker fan so that is pretty darn negative in my book. Pretty much ban worthy.

Thing is, youre wrong. I rarely say what I think in regards to certain posts, so implying the reasoning that something happens often is due to something that happens rarely is flawed. And it doesn't happen often just because you say it does.
