<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The Mavericks' No. 1 target in free agency? Folks in Dallas might have been expecting Mavs killer Matt Barnes, but I'm told it's actually Charlotte's Gerald Wallace. ...Surely you haven't forgotten the drill: Teams and free agents can reach verbal agreements at any time in the next 10 days, but new contracts can't actually be signed before July 11 while the league finishes determining the salary-cap figure for next season.</div><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>But the Mavericks also are in the market for a big man to back up Dirk Nowitzki, rather than placing all of that burden on rookie Nick Fazekas. P.J. Brown is believed to be No. 1 on the Mavericks' list to fill that spot. But the 37-year-old Brown, who played well for Chicago last season, also is contemplating retirement. </div>Looks like Mavs are aiming high. The Gerald Wallace thing would be complicated unless he outright signs for the MLE. That would be surprizing, I think G-Wall could be this year's Rashard Lewis and Mike James. Number 1 target, don't get him. Also, don't see Cats taking on Terry for Wallace in a SNT. It might make sense with the recent waiving of Knight but still a reach. They can get better offers.Bottom line though, it would be great to land Wallace. Fingers crossed.PJ Brown has always been the guy Mavs fans have pined for behind Dirk and this year should be a realistic option. He's said he wants to play for a contender and willing to do it cheap. Our trade exception could very land him, or even the LLE/Vet.

^I'd love if they got both of those guys :dribble: .Heck, I'd love if they got either one of them...especially Brown :winkglasses: .But I agree with you Rok...Wallace will be tough, and I don't think Barnes is that bad of a backup plan to be honest.BTW, sorry I haven't been around in a while, I moved from Dallas to Springfield Mizzouri, and it took a while toget everything set up [IMG] .I should be on like I used to now...not that any even noticed I was gone, lol :beee:

And I agree, Matt Barnes would be a solid backup option to Wallace. Also, if PJ signs elsewhere, I wouldn't mind Chris Mihm.

I'd be all over Wallace with that, but I highly doubt that's going to happen.PJ Brown is realistic and perfect... he'd be great for us. Obviously he's older, but his age doesn't overpower him... he seems like a hustle player. It seems like that's what we're going for this year in general, huh?

Hell if we land Wallace I think that would be great. I don't think we should do any type of sign and trade type thing. Not worth trading Terry. Ever since Wallace went to Cats I started to like him more and more. Barnes would be good also. I like players like him. Hustle players. Finally a chance to land PJ Brown seems like. I would love him behind Dirk.If Mavs cant either get Barnes or Wallace maybe they should look at Desmond Mason. We're going to need someone now that George is gone

Update: Per DMN.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The Mavericks were among the first half-dozen teams to inquire about free-agent swingman Gerald Wallace, but it will be a long, difficult journey to acquire him. It's also possible that other free-agent targets will be more obtainable. Still, Wallace is near or at the top of the Mavs' wish list, even though acquiring him will take much more than the mid-level exception, expected to be between $5.8 million and $6 million. Wallace, who averaged 18.1 points and 7.2 rebounds for Charlotte last season, is considered one of the top three free agents left on the board, along with Seattle's Rashard Lewis and Detroit's Chauncey Billups. He will command as much as $10 million annually, which means the Mavericks would have to work a sign-and-trade deal with the Bobcats. "We're working the phones," president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson said Sunday. "We were on it until 2:30 in the morning doing our jobs and knowing what's out there. We got a lot of lines out, and we don't know which one is going to hit. "We're just going to take our time. It could be a day or it could be a month." It will be difficult to get anything done with Wallace. Most insiders believe he will stay with Charlotte even though the Bobcats last week traded for Jason Richardson, who plays the same position as Wallace. The Mavericks would have to ship contracts that match within 25 percent of the starting salary Wallace gets. And the Bobcats would no doubt want hefty value on the players coming their way. Wallace's agent, Rob Pelinka, did not immediately return phone calls. The Mavericks are also interested in power forward P.J. Brown, whose agent, Mark Bartelstein, also represents James Posey and Mikki Moore. Brown is contemplating retirement, but the Mavericks may be able to acquire him for their biannual exception, which is worth $1.8 million. Other names on the Mavs' board are Matt Barnes and Mickael Pietrus from Golden State. The Mavericks also hope to hammer out an agreement with Jerry Stackhouse by midweek. Stackhouse's agent, Jeff Schwartz, and Nelson indicated Sunday that there were no snags and that both sides are hopeful to reach an agreement this week.</div>No surprize, Wallace thing seems complicated and a reach. Ironically, the two other free agent swingmen targets appear to be Warriors. Still hope we can get PJ to sign, I know Bulls want to resign him and he's comtemplating retirement.

^If we pull Brown and either Barnes or Pietrus, we'll be okay. I think we'll have upgraded over the summer from last year with Fazekas and 2 of those moves above...regardless of if we do anything else.

Brown would be an awesome pick-up. Great rebounder and hustle player and a great locker room guy. Kind of compliments Dirk's style of play.

Add James Posey to the list of guys we made inquiries about when Free Agency began. Other Mavs fans seem to like him, I think he's a punk ass bi*ch. But I guess it's good to have that punk on our team and not our rivals. He'd be our Bruce Bowen.

It might still be a fun little signing.

Rok sent me a bit of info earlier. Looks like nothing else is going to happen. It's kind of like Mavs just blew off this whole offseason. I'm sure plenty of people want to smack Cuban upside the head. I don't see a reason why Mavs shouldn't get PJ Brown. It's not like there is much competition or will break the wallet

^See I don't think they're just sitting around doing nothing, or that they just "blew this offseason off". I'm sure if they could make a move that they thought would help, they would, but they just haven't been able to sign anyone that will help so far, or make any other moves.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>According to ESPN.comTalks Slow-MovingJul 13 - League sources said Toronto, Dallas and Miami were among those interested in Mickael Pietrus, but the Raptors committed their midlevel exception to sharpshooter Jason Kapono, and the Heat are still hoping to lure point guard Mo Williams away from Milwaukee. Talks with Golden State have been slow-moving and interest in a multi-year deal might be lukewarm on both ends. Happy Walters, Pietrus' agent, said the Warriors "have not been very responsive" since tendering a one-year offer of about $3.5 million last month. "If they have an interest in keeping Mickael, they need to let us know," Walters said. -- San Francisco Chronicle</div><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>From Mark Stein Steve Francis remains the Clippers' No. 1 free-agent target ? and the Clippers are still considered the team most likely to sign Francis. But don't discount Dallas. The scoring guard formerly known as Stevie Franchise in Houston has a close relationship with Mavericks coach and offseason Houston resident Avery Johnson, who is heading Dallas' recruitment of both Francis and Chris Webber. It's believed that the Mavs favor Webber if they have to choose between the two. Yet they're also contemplating whether to divvy up their $5.3 million exception in an attempt to sign both former All-Stars, as Dallas searches for an additional offensive threat or two that can prevent opposing defenses from focusing so heavily on Dirk Nowitzki. It's safe to say that all of Francis' suitors -- Houston is another top contender, as is Miami if the Heat can't convince Mo Williams to leave the Bucks -- are hoping that the 30-year-old makes situation and fit his greater priorities than money, after Francis received an estimated $30 million buyout from Portland.</div><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>From Need4Sheed:C-Webb is deciding between The Pistons and The Mavs, but if Joe Dumars can't unload Nazr Mohammed it would be unlikely that he would re-sign Webber.</div>Random notes regarding Mavs and free agents. Going from those articles, sounds like he's going to be in Dallas, but I'm not holding my breath till it actually happens. There's only two options at backup pf that I'm interested in, PJ and Webb. Landing one of them would be an A+(plus you know my view on Webb from back in Feb.).On Francis, pass. To me, if we sign him, Terry has to go. I rather much go for Pietrus who does not seem to have much competition for his services. Offer him the MLE and hope Warriors don't match. There's our starting 2 guard.

I really want Mavs to sign someone. A back up PF and a swing.PJ or Webber either one. I will be happy if we get one just because it's someone to sign. But I think Webber would be more effective player off the bench than PJ Brown. Webber is one of those passing bigs, which appeals to me. I wasn't to crazy about the rumors of Webber going Mavs before he went to Detroit. I have changed my mind. I would like to see him off the bench.Pietrus would be good. Athletic and good defender. And I really think Bucker is the odd man out. Mavs bringing George back and possibly brining in two other guys there is no room for him. I think we should trade him for a second rounder

My God, if we had Webber... wow. I can't imagine how he would get enough playing time, but I'd love to have him. I was one of the few that liked Detroit getting him when the Sixers dumped him. He's not a guy you want leading your team for sure, but as a sixth or seventh man, HELL YES. You've got to be crazy not wanting a guy like that coming off your bench.
