I'd like to know how many times they torque the wheels. If ever.

I actually knew someone who had new tires put on his truck, and as he drove off and onto I-5, one of the wheels came off and he got into a pretty bad accident. He sued them, and won iirc.

They are always incredibly nice whenever I’ve gone in. Strange how disliked they are by people. Guess I’ve been lucky.

There is one in Hillsboro that I Went to with a flat tire, It was like 100 for a new tire and they didn't upsale me on anything (or even try). The people I interacted with seemed nice enough too. I agree it's interesting, I didn't know people disliked them that much.

    edit..jiffy lube story
I never let anyone work on my cars unless it is warranty work. My wife had a Ford Fusion company car at her last job. We didn't own it and they supplied coupons to have it serviced. I figure what the hell, it ain't mine.

Take it in and they have windows where you can watch them work. Guy drains the oil and goes over to a hose coming out of a barrel. Fills this crusty looking cut up container with oil and transfers it to the car. Strike one.

Then I watch him lift the car and rotate the tires. He proceeds to tighten the wheels with a chrome socket on an impact wrench. How tight? Who the hell knows, 150 or 500 ft lbs? Then he adds air to the tires.

Finishes the job and I am standing in the office with a few other people waiting for their cars. Manager tells me car is done. Says they changed oil and rotated tires and inflated tires to 37psi. I ask manager where they came up with 37 psi. He can't answer, I tell him that there is a sticker in the door jamb that tells you how much air the tires take. Then I tell him that I will loosen the lugs in the parking lot and hand tighten them before we drive the car home as I know that the "tech" has no idea what he tightened them to. I will torque them when I get home. He goes in the back and they open the door and read the sticker. They inflate the tires to the 32 psi or whatever it was on that car.

I tell him that we use vouchers to service the car otherwise I would never let them touch it and that they are the professionals and should know better. Poor guy reading a newspaper is peaking out from behind listening. Then I said something snotty about now I know why you have your techs out spinning signs every morning when I go to work.

That same car had to have some paint work done because a tow truck driver scratched it taking it to the dealer. Don't even get me started on being a bodyman having work done by someone else. I couldn't fix it because the lease co had a deal with the dealership. What a nightmare that was.

I fixed a Focus back in say 2003 that the guy was driving down the freeway in the rain and he swore the car just lost control going straight. Everyone laughed after he left like "yeah, right"

I was working on his car and noticed the side I was working on had some sort of aquatread style tires that were directional. The passenger side tires were pointing the wrong way. I told my boss to tell him to sue whoever did it but don't know if anything came of it.

I get paid .1 hour to R and I a wheel at work. I take a picture with my torque wrench on any wheel I remove and install for the file. I may get sued but I ain't losing over .1

If I decided to work on our car, we would be buying a new one shortly after.. heh.
I am lucky that I have a family friend who owns a repair shop a couple of blocks from our house. He hates my car, it's a 2007 chevy cobalt, but he knows I'm driving it until it won't go anymore.

As long as you don't have 35 more payments Al Bundy style you are fine.

My gray Focus I bought with tons of new parts but the guy couldn't get a check engine light to clear. He even took it to the Ford dealer and they said it needed a new computer. I was like, I can fix it or have friends who can help me.

It had an O2 sensor heated wire code that wouldn't go away. I figured I would just change the sensor with an OEM ford sensor because it was only 40 bucks. Changed it and the light would still come back on after 2 starts. Reached down and felt the wires by hand and traced them up looking for a cut wire or something. Got to the top of the engine and it ended at a plug that wasn't plugged in. Previous owner had changed the alternator and never plugged a wire harness back in after he had done it. Plugged it in and light was gone for good. Guy said he was on his last nerve and his wife made him sell the car. I paid less for it than he had put into it in parts.

All this car talk just makes me more frustrated because this week i parked in my driveway, where I always do, with my wife in the garage. I came home after work, and knew i would leave early before her. I was parked about half behind her, half to the left. She decided to go somewhere and absolutely nailed my car with her Tahoe. Both cars jacked up. Now I have to wait until the 30th for a shop to look at it and probably won’t start work on it for a couple weeks after that. Don’t understand how it’s even possible with rear cameras and sensors and all that shit but she found a way.
