When your talking Chauncey Billups, your talking a winner. Your talking a guy that likes to win and wants to retire one as well. The situation in Detroit is not as bad as it seems and is not that bad to make Billups leave. First off, the Pistons were the #1 team in the East last year and if it werent for Lebron, (and only Lebron) we would have had a serious championship matchup. Billups clearly has a more than solid supporting cast, and dont put it past them to make it to the finals. I believe Detroit has made it to the past 5 or more ECF's and that doesn't look to be changing anytime soon. No one in the East except for maybe the Bulls have the cap space to sign Billups, and they have Gordon. The Bucks, have the cap space, but still have a good chunk of their players to resign. Lets face it, for Billups to move, he has to go to a team that has another chance to win a championship, similar to the Ben Wallace deal. Bottom line, no one in the East, or West for that matter that are even looking to contend in the next 2 years have the cap space to sign billups. Am I saying that he is for sure suiting up as a Piston next year? No. But this doesn't change the thought in my mind that Billups is leaving. However, on the note that if Billups will suit up as a Piston, that can be argued, just in the sense that the Pistons are looking for a sign and trade and could land a deal many places. However, it is still hard to find a player with a contract 12M matching Billups value. I expect Detroit to make a bigger offer for Billups if they want him back. Expect him to get offered a couple million more per year with a team option/qualifying offer on that line.

+3 for RaptorFan, unless the East really steps up this year and improves, the Pistons will still be a Finals contender and will most likely make to the ECF again. There's no arguing about that.

Chauncey Billups is not leaving Detriot. He has said on numerious occasions he wants to stay a Piston, and right now its a matter of how much and how long he will be signed. It was reported Billups' agent said it isnt finalized, so he really didnt turn it down but just said...I need it tweaked. After only getting paid about a MLE the past few seasons, Billups is looking for big money to make up for that. It was reported they agreed to a contract around 12mill a year, which Billups might want more. Like I said, its just a matter of how much and how long. Saying that, theres a slight chance he would go elsewhere, but you can elminate teams like Memphis and Orlando who were the best fits for Billups.

+3 for BluffCity, good point in that there aren't many teams that have the cap room for Chauncey that need a PG.

Nope, I am 100% confident as a Pistons fan that he'll be back. It's not like the Pistons are offering piddly poo money. 12 million for 5 years would make him the highest paid player in Piston history. He'd be making more than Steve Nash.Second, there are reports that were no serious bidders out on the market. The closest ones were the Magic, and they ended up taking Lewis. Milwaukee is focusing on re-signing Mo Williams, and everywhere else Billups wouldn't want to go, as they won't be contending anytime soon.Billups knows he still has a shot to contend with this team. We still have one of, if not the best starting 5 in the league, and now possibly one of the best benches with the additions of Stuckey, Afflalo, a more experienced Maxiell, McDyess, the emergence of Amir, and possibly Hill or Mo Pete. The East sucks. Period. There's a great chance to make it to the finals, if not win it all.He has great chemistry with the team, and Detroit has been very good to him. Detroit made him what he is today. With Dumars laying down the line about everyone's attitude, Billups has to know we have a better shot at the ship than ever before. The only thing I could possibly see him leaving because of is Flip Saunders. However, this will be their third year together, and Billups should be more comfortable with Flip and his style.

However, in defending Billup's situation I think Chris Broussard put it best in that this is the last chance for Billups to sign a very big contract like this so he's going to try and squeeze as much money out of the Pistons as he can. He's at a point in his career where he's getting up there in his prime and teams will start to shy away as he gets older so it's best he gets a deal done now and can start focusing on bringing the NBA title back to the Motor City. I think we'll wait for CB4AllStar to make his post, and then we'll wrap up today's topics.

You don't have to give me any points for this, but I forgot to add something. The only reason this is being held up, is because of Amir Johnson. If we didn't have to worry about re-signing Amir, we would have given Billups his money.

I'm thinking since this is a very busy week for a lot of people, we're going to push the game until next week and start over. It's fair enough to do that seeing is how this should be organized better. So please do not pay any attention to the scores, on Monday we'll start over and it should be much better. Thanks guys. :winkglasses:

Besides, there will be much better topics then because that's when a few key players have signed and we can start debating on whether the teams made good moves. :dribble:
