I heard this, it's a shame he's leaving.. hopefully he will be back in a jazz uniform sometime soon, I certainly wish him luck with him and his family.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Fisher Leaves Jazz To Care For DaughterESPN - 07/02 - 9:23 PM ESTUtah Jazz guard Derek Fisher was released from his contract Monday to care for his 10-month-old daughter, who has cancer.Fisher and his wife, Candace, said they needed time to search for the best treatment for their daughter, Tatum."Basketball is not a priority. I don't have plans to retire ... I would enjoy playing the game, but there are a lot of things to consider," Fisher said at a news conference Monday.Fisher at times fought exhaustion trying to balance basketball and his daughter's welfare. Once, in May, he spent a day at a New York hospital, then flew back to Utah for a Western Conference semifinal game against the Golden State Warriors .</div>I hope for only the best for the Fisher family. Being with his daughter is most certainly the most important thing in his life right now. Basketball isn't even an option for him. Very nice gesture by the Jazz releasing him as well.

I think he does need some time away from basketball to care for his family and I definitely hope his daughter gets better. I hope he'll be able to come back soon.

This is the right move by both Derek Fisher and the Jazz organization. Family is always the first priority. I hope his daughter and the rest of the family are alright and will overcome the cancer. When the time is right I'm sure Fisher will return to the NBA, but that time is not right now.I am wondering, however, whether or not he will be allowed to remain the head of the NBAPA since he isn't signed, and if not, then who will be his replacement?

From what I understand Fisher and the Jazz agreed upon this, their decision has been sent to the NBA, apparently there is a loophole in the CBA which will basically make it as if the contract never exisited. so the Jazz should gain some cap space after this.as for Fisher, its been rumored he'll likely take a year off from basketball and than come back. I wish him the best of luck and his daughter a speedy recover, not a lot of people would have walked away with 21 million dollars on the table. props to him.
