We have had historically good injury luck since this training staff was overhauled. This year has been an anomaly.

But what does give me pause is the multiple dudes w back spasms. That shouldn't happen

Or...a year after parting with the highly successful medical staff, problems cropped up and subsequently multiplied.

It could be. Telling correlation from causation is always hard. I live 5000 miles away from the team, and it seems to widely be considered a well-run franchise. So I tend to believe what I wrote. But it's certainly possible our medical staff changes have had an impact.

We've had a lot of longevity with Olshey, Stotts, Dame and CJ. If our medical staff/trainers suddenly got much worse with staff turnover, it kind of seems like those guys would notice and take corrective action.

It seems like 1 or 2 rotation players tend to go down for significant minutes over a season on a typical NBA team. We've had 4 in the past 12 months (Zach, Hood, Skal, Nurk). That's maybe 2 more than one would expect. But with such a small sample size, it's really hard to say if it's random chance or poor training/medical.

The team exhibited exceptionally good health during Stackpole's tenure, following a period of significant injuries. Roy, Oden, Miles, etc. In trying to remember the name of the guy who was around forever -- everyone loved him and he was respected enough to work the All-Star game at least once, but he was considered behind the times on injury prevention, I ran across this article:

That was the perception before Stackpoke, and it appears we're headed back in that direction. Rapidly. To your point, the Blazers have always been considered a well-run franchise. That didn't stop them from overlooking/accepting these problems for a long time, so there's no reason to expect different now.

The 2014-15 Blazers had a fair number of injuries under Stackpole's care:
