Thank you both. It's been the single hardest thing I've ever had to do. She was fine last week, then dropped off a cliff very suddenly on Sunday. She threw up 7 times in one day. Monday I took her in for an emergency checkup at my parent's vet clinic, since my usual one was closed for the holiday, and they found something on X-ray that they were concerned about and referred us to a nearby 24-hour Vet hospital the very next day. Once there on Monday, they did an ultrasound, and found a mass in her stomach that was preventing her from eating, and was also blocking her bladder. They further found masses on her lymph-nodes as well. I put her to sleep that day. My mother held her in a blanket while I held her little face and bawled like a child.

I've been an emotional wreck ever since. It was so bad that I had to crash at my parent's place last night at 3 AM because I just couldn't bear being alone in this apartment without her. My father is away until Monday, so I crashed on his recliner. They have 6 cats of their own, which helped tremendously.

It's not so much the fact that she's gone, but the fact that I know she's not coming back. My mind keeps playing tricks on me....I keep glancing around expecting to see her, but of course she's not there. Her two empty beds....her full water bowl that I don't have the heart to dump out.....the little paw prints in her litter box.....:wantmommy::sad::smiley-cry:

*Breath*......now I'm looking at other cats to adopt this week. I can't go without one; I need the companionship. I thought that once she was gone I could focus on training for a new career in Heavy Equipment Operations before I get another cat.....but I've quickly discovered that I NEED a cat. Badly.

So....tomorrow I'm cleaning this place up. My mother has connections to local shelters in our region because she works at the Humane Society, so that helps as well. It's going to be very hard.....getting rid of things is a bit of a permanent "goodbye". :wantmommy::wantmommy::wantmommy::wantmommy::wantmommy: Wish me luck fams.

Are you out West? Don't know why, but it just seems like you had mentioned that in tha past. I got this picture and post from a guy down in NSW. He was also saying his water tank has never been so low, and there's a couple more months to go. I saw an interactive map, and it looked like the whole darn Continent is on fire....

    A bushfire & Tornado combined.

    Imagine.........

Edit: This is a "small" & isolated fire. There's a likelihood that two bigger fires in NSW are going to suck each-other into one huge conflagration. I don't want to think of the consequences if that were to happen. It's the big ones that are the problem.

    And the wind changes....

Oh believe me, been there done that. I also kept thinking I heard the cat after they had to be put to sleep. When I buried them, and I've lived here long enough to have 9 cats in the garden, I always felt a mad desire to unbury so I could hold the cat again.

You might try writing down about the cat and your life together.

And while a new cat never replaces the former, they need a home and will bring love and companions in their unique way.

Our most recent cat was one that we shared with the neighbors. It was originally a stray, but it latched onto our families; and ended up getting spoiled. It would bounce back and forth, visiting each of our houses. Our elderly neighbor lady put a little bell on her collar, so we could always tell where she was at. I swear- that thing just LOVED to jump through the window, and land on the bed at 2am. Scared the crap out of me Every. Single. Time. I know for a fact- the thing was laughing at us after it did it.

It got sick really young- like three years old and passed away. I still hear the bell tingling at times outside. Weird.

It's been a couple years now. We all have been really wanting to get another one. My plan- we are going to get three brother/sister kittens. All of them are going to grow up together. If something tragic happens, and one dies then there will still be two left to be with each other....
