This is GM 101 right here. Even if it would be smart to fire Stotts, Olshey would have a hard time explaining it to Jody. She would probably be surprised by the suggestion since the idea itself is only being suggested by local fans on social media. Nobody nationally or in the local media think Stotts should be fired.

I've actually heard some national guys starting to question the coaching but even if there weren't having the built in injury excuse for both of them not doing their job correctly this season definitely buys them time no matter what the results are.

I meant, but didn't add the per year

and my assumption is that it would be the owner wanting the coach fired

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that no media member has question if Stotts is doing a great job, just that not one has said Portland needs to get a new coach.

Whether its all because of the injuries, or the injuries have nothing to do with it, or anywhere in the middle, the injuries will buy Stotts and NO at least this season and probably next season too. I wouldnt be shocked if Jody is unaware the teams struggling this year.

What would firing Olshey accomplish? Would it mean half the rotation returns healthy? If you’re gonna fire anyone, fire Stotts. As it’s been mentioned already though, he’s most likely safe too. The injuries make it a pretty safe bet.

If firing Olshey wouldn't make half the rotation healthy, I don't think firing Stotts would either.

just because half the rotation is out doesn’t mean it’s ok that they’re losing to teams like the warriors and Knicks. That’s more on Stotts than Olshey.

Fair enough. The best coach in the world gets this team to the 6th seed. When you look at what Olshey did from an addition/subtraction standpoint this off-season , you can't say that was a top quality job either.

You fire Olshey because he took a 53 win team that was progressing into a 56+ win team, and turned it into a ~43 win team with garbage offseason moves. This will become more apparent when we get healthy and still aren’t very good. I expect alternate excuses will still abound.

No team with Dame, CJ, Melo and Whiteside should be as bad as we are. It's a testament to just how truly stupid I am.

why would you think that? She has been to games at the Moda Center this year and this was her brothers team.

So? My brother had a lot of interests that I didn't share, and his passing didn't all of a sudden make more interested in those things.

lol, and if your brother owned a business and willed it to you, you wouldn;t care how it was operating? C'mon TBF, be realistic. If you have some sort of proof then fine, but to just throw out wild unsupported allegations is akin to a women's knitting club sitting around gossiping about the local hussy.

I would think that if my brother's passing bequeathed billion+ dollar assets to my care, I would immediately become very interested in those things, even if I hadn't been previously.

Blazers have highest payroll in NBA at $148 mil, which is $9 mil above the next highest payroll... if you take away Nurk, Collins, and Hood, the Blazers still have the 13th highest payroll in NBA for a team that is 7 games under .500. Neil is stealing the fans money, while him, Stotts, and CJ are getting paid and drinking wine together... that’s why you fire Neil.

The Blazers are a pretty small part of what he willed to her. She was willed a bunch of his projects and businesses there is no proof the Blazers are a big deal to her. It's like maybe 10% of what she got.
edit: Oh and she has already sold off a few of his "interests". So guess she was seriously interested in that stuff too.

I'm just saying I wouldn't be at all surprised if she doesn't care nearly as much as we do. If she said, "I didn't know how bad it is basketball-wise", would that really shock you guys?

That business is worth less than 10% of what she got in her will, 1.6B she's worth 20b+ So come on don't act like the PTB's are a huge deal to her just because it's a big deal to us. If you have 2m worth of business interests, you might care about the one that's worth 160k, but it's not going to be a huge priority for you.

Nobody said anything about them being "a big deal". Simply worthy of attention/interest. And even when considering multi-billion dollar enterprise, 10% is pretty significant. Yes, there's no "proof" that she "cares" about the team, but it is more reasonable than not to assume that she is aware of its status and performance.
