Why would they give up on a younger better player for a worse older player... I dont like Simmons game at all but there is 0 chance CJ’s getting the Blazers Ben Simmons.
I'm not interested in Horford at all. That's a bad contract considering his age, I thought so from the beginning. He's bad fit with Embiid, let Philly swallow that pill. I'd be interested in Harris and Richardson though. Harris is bad contract as well but at least he offers something different to what we already have and is super versatile. Richardson has a great contract, is a good defender and offers something on offense but I would need extra assets to make that deal. I'm not sure Philly would entertain that though with CJ having inflated contract as well.
Don't make drastic win now moves this year. Dame and CJ are on long term deals and aren't flight risks. It really freaking blows but this season and the injuries have been par for the course for this franchise (we always have this bad fortune after playoff success). So this fanbase should provide no pressure to make shortsighted trades. Just don't run Dame into the ground in hopes of an 8th seed, and re-tool for next year using the HW/Baze contracts. I want a valuable contributor on a longer term deal for at least one of those two. And seriously evaluate coaching-- eating Terry's deal should be palatable if we get a viable replacement. Managing our expectations makes this season somewhat tolerable.
Not for CJ but I kinda like buying low on Zhaire Smith and Jonah Bolden who aren't really a part of the 76ers rotation. I was trying to figure out a 3rd team to send Horford to, even though it was a fake rumor it's still fun to talk about. If Indiana gave us Myles Turner and Jeremy Lamb (maybe a pick too) so we got those two and Zhaire and picks would that be more interesting? They could probably flip Turner for a wing too.
Over the coming 5 years: Harris makes $179m CJ makes $156m Is the Tobias Harris contract really worse for our team? CJ has the same PER, he has worse defense, he's 4 inches shorter, and he's a year older. We have a replacement for CJ in Ant. Even looking beyond PER, you look at what their doing statistically this year and it's kind of a wash. Philly really needs somebody who can create a shot for himself in crunch time. Portland desperately needs a guy who is 6'8 and can guard somebody. It actually solves a lot of problems for both teams, and has the benefit of being in opposite conferences. I'd even consider doing a Whiteside for Horford swap at the same time if it wasn't for Horford's contract. Horford looks terrible this year, but he's not really fitting in with their offense. Portland could use him a lot like Boston did, which is a better fit for us and him. But jeez, the guy is making $109m over 4 years. That's insane for a backup center/pf. No way they are dumping that trash heap on us. ....unless they threw in Richardson as well? That'd be a massive roster overhaul for both sides. Harris/Richardson/Horford for CJ/Bazemore/Whiteside. hmmm.
wow...if they offered that deal, I'd pull the trigger. Love CJ but Harris, Horford and Richardson works for improvement.
I’ve read rumors of a Simmons for DAngelo Russell swap... if that is truly something Philly is considering, I really hope Neil would offer CJ but I doubt his ego will allow it.
So what do you suggest? Curl up into a perpetual rebuild and pray there comes a year in which there are no great teams?
Looking at the thread title I think: Every team is interested in our 3rd- or 4th-best player...if they can get him for their 4th- or 5th-best player. But it takes two to tango, a motivated buyer and seller. Olshey is not a motivated seller.
