Back to the Mayans and their beliefs. If any of you have seen Apacalypto...that was crazy sh*t. Shows how they were a civilization that pretty much destroyed itself...and then the Spanish came along in the end, and didn't help that situation any. Yet, they were still pretty intelligent on matters such as time and space which is why people take the Apocalypse in 2012 so seriously.
Yes that is true, but one nuke from any of the countries listed onto a major urban population would cause drastic amounts of damage, plus the radiation would kiloff the ones nearby that survived the initial blast.Chemical weapons (Viruses, and other pathogens) are just as important. The country is not ready for a biological attack on a heavily populated area. If that were to happen it would damage The U.S. considerably. The thing is, what if a leader does not care what happens to his homeland? He believes that nothing will happen too him? (this is a very rare scenario and probably will not happen tho), and were to launch an attack. No matter what we do to him, we will have been hit and taking the damage. The media does do overkill on these stories, which I personally hate. It's good to spread important info, but it can go overboard.
The Mayans weren't a perfect civilization. If they predicted the end of the world, why did they not predict the end of their civilization, not trust the explorers, and ultimately survive through it?

They do predict the end of their civilization but are so...I guess caught up in their own demise and I guess ignorance they didn't listen. They were a civilization already destroying themselves before the Spanish even came and conquered.

He along with teams of historians and experts put this together. Gibson just directed and produced it. Not to mention The Passion...great movie made from what is presented in the Christian/Catholic Bible.
Here are just a few I found :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apocolypto#Hi...and_Historicity-Remember it is a movie, they have to make money somehow. If people were truly interested in this, they would've watched the specials on the History channel
I haven't seen the movie, but I have heard that in the movie a lot of Mayan and Aztec beliefs are mixed together as one. I don't recall if the Mayans predicted the end of their civilization, but the Aztecs did. the Aztecs predicted that Quetzelquadal(sp?) would come from the East, and would be a shiny golden man. Hernand Cortez was blonde and wore shiny armor, and Montezuma believed that Cortez was the god Quetzelquadal.
