But if he was better than Lee, he wouldn't have been cut at all. They would've just stood pat.

Agree there. Portland has an open roster spot & needs a big. We're scraping the bottom of the barrel - so ahead & take a flyer on him.

The difference between Lee and Chriss is Golden State now controls Lee beyond this season, while Chriss is headed for unrestricted free agency. It’s the same reason they’ll probably dump one of Burks/Robinson once they need to make room for Bowman.

CBA experts....does Portland only have 1 open slot? 14 players counting Hood (unless I'm missing somebody), but Portland was granted an injury exception for Hood. Does that essentially mean 2 open slots?

I just don’t wanna watch Anthony Tolliver “play” center anymore ok please?

15 is the roster limit, except for short periods with special approval.

You can have 16 if you have at least 4 players who have missed three consecutive games and will continue to miss time. Soon as you have 3 or less injured players, you have to go back to 15.

Portland could sign 2 players right now with Nurk, Collins, Hood, Skal all being out. If/when Nurk & Skal come back, Portland would have to be back to 15 roster spots.

Are you sure about this? I might be wrong but I thought they changed this in the last CBA to essentially the DPE taking the roster spot of the injured player?

    Okay, you're right, my bad!

The DPE is an exception for bringing in salary you wouldn't normally be able to, not just a roster spot.

Tyson Chandler barely plays for Houston, is cheap, and knows Stotts system. He still grades out positively defensively and can rebound.

Tolliver has a rebounding % of 8.7. Among wings and bigs on the roster, only Bazemore has a lower percentage. His block percentage meanwhile is lower than McCollums. All good though, don’t need another big.

maybe they are waiting for the results of Skal's 2nd MRI so they know what type of big they need? Maybe Nurkic is getting closer to a return? Maybe it's a subtle tank?

I still think Julius Randle would fit in Portland. He’s still owed roughly $23M after this season if his option for ‘21-22 isn’t picked up. Love is a better player but Randle is younger, cheaper, can crash the boards, score inside, pass the ball, and has shown potential as a shooter. If we could get him for Bazemore and a pick, I think we should consider it.

He has been so bad this year though. I also think he doesn't fit very well next to Nurk although he has offensive potential.

Houston would probably ask for Little.

The thing I noticed about Tolliver at center, he seems pretty good at defending intial actions. On the pick and roll, he gets out and then gets back to his man relatively well. The problem is the Blazers can never secure a defensive rebound when he's playing the pivot. What's the point of forcing a miss if the opposition is just going to get an easy putback?

I'll just about use any opportunity to bash Olshey, but he did use that concept last season with Hood and Kanter

By waiting this long Olshey pretty much has to do something similar or else he literally did nothing to salvage a season in which there were multiple injuries to one position.
