I actually do have a problem with this, if accurate. We have assets that we can trade. I think there will be a lot of interest in Whiteside and we should get what we can for him. I know there are a lot of expiring contracts in the league right now but Whiteside's has to be the most attractive given the year his is having, just letting him walk would be a shame. I'd also like to get something for Bazemore but that might prove to be difficult. If I really had my way I would trade CJ, Baze and our 2020 first rounder to Philly for Harris and Richardson. Then I would trade Whiteside and a second rounder to the Cavs for Love. I know a lot of you aren't high on Love but I think he's still a great rebounder, three point shooter, passer and winner. Our lineup until Nurk and Zach get back would be Dame, Richardson, Harris, Melo, Love. Everyone in that starting lineup can shoot the three our defense can't get much worse (we sacrifice some interior D for much better perimeter D). Our floor spacing would be amazing. When Nurk gets back Melo would go to the bench. Next season the rotation would look something like Dame, Richardson, Harris, Love, Nurk, Zach, Ant, Little and possibly Hood... we'd even probably get someone new with the tax payer's MLE. I know none of this will happen... Neil will never trade CJ, the team doesn't seem to want Love's contract and there are a lot of moving pieces. With all of that said, I still hold out hope that Neil will wake up and do what he has to do to get some value out of Whiteside instead of just letting him walk.
I wouldn’t read too much into this “report.” Windhorst isn’t plugged into Portland’s front office and even if he were, it’s lying season. If there’s something like this out there, there’s a reason behind it. I’d be surprised if Bazemore was still here after the deadline. If Nurk shows he’s good, Whiteside is probably gone too.
Standing pat on Kevin Love? Great! Standing pat prior to the deadline? I doubt it. I really can't see Olshey not taking the opportunity to get some value for one of either Whiteside or Bazemore, not to mention signing a vet with the Hood injured player exception (assuming, of course, that the Blazers are still within spitting distance of a playoff berth).
Love was a All Star, he is no longer. Love has only scored 30 points in 6 games over the last three seasons. Who cares what he was or did, what can he do in the future, besides sit on the bench for 30 plus games a year injured. He doesn't move the needle for this team.
I think if we trade anyone it will something very small. Some you guys think Whiteside and some say Bazemore but I would be very suprise if the a lot takers for either one especially for Bazemore. My theory is we got Whiteside for Leonard you would think if Miami had a lot takers for him they could done better. Same with Bazemore and Turner trade both of them need new teams because there wasn't any takers for either one of them with there big contracts.
I wonder if we could get Harkless and filler for Baze. It’s be great to have Mo back. I’d throw in a pick.
I assume "standing pat" means Portland doesn't like what they're being offered and they're threatening to do nothing if the offers don't get better. Unortunately, I think everyone knows Olshey has to do something and this is the a false threat.
or, like tester argued somewhere here, and others have wondered....Jody Allen may have drawn a line in the sand about any higher tax this season, and no tax next season, and there simply aren't any trades out there that meet those requirements I've always thought the assumption that either Whiteside or Bazemore will be traded is a tenuous assumption simply because there's a whole bunch of expiring contracts available right now. Olshey was an idiot in 2016, but he wasn't the only idiot. That was idiot summer, and this coming deadline is it's final echo
Very possible, but to date I have not heard anything from Jody Allen, the team, or even reports that she wants to tighten the budget. The CBA has made it so overspending punishes you, whether the owner is ok with it or not. If I had to guess, we probably will let one of either Baze or Whiteside expire. Letting both expire would be a major setback given Dame's age.
I don't think the demand for Whiteside is all that large. It seems to me his critics were right in that he's a real stat stuffer but one with questionable impact. Best case scenario IMO, would be if Neil could get Hassan to sign a team friendly contract ala Nurk. Even a two year deal with a player option would work well for both parties. Ideally, the Bosnian Beast's minutes would be limited long term so that he can have a historic healthy career with the Blazers. Never thought Stotts would become Sarge. Driving stars into the ground with high minutes and immovable gameplans while snubbing the future.
