<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>SEATTLE -- The Seattle SuperSonics have scheduled a Thursday news conference amid reports that the team has hired P.J. Carlesimo as its new head coach.Team officials are refusing to comment on a report appearing on the San Antonio Express-News Web site, which says Carlesimo has been chosen by Sonics' ownership.Carlesimo has been an assistant the last five seasons in San Antonio and before that was a head coach in Portland and Golden State.Carlesimo and former Minnesota coach Dwane Casey have been considered the two front-runners for the position. The Sonics fired Bob Hill on April 24.</div>I think this is a great signing for the Sonics, Carlesimo is underrated in many ways and I think he's the guy to turn that franchise around and keep them in Seattle.

This is a good signing for the Sonics, as Carlismo will be very valuable having been beside Greg Popovich for so long. I do wonder though, if Carlismo as a coach will bring the same type of hard nose style of play that he helped coach in San Antonio, or if he lets this team play to it's athleticism? Should be interesting to see that, and if he pisses off one of his best players and gets choked again?

I think he will do a great job with the Sonics. It's amazing how many teams overlooked him for their head coach vacancies through the years. Finally he'll get the chance to redeem his reputation after the Sprewell incident. And if he ends up being choked again I bet the Spurs would take him back. not sure this was the right move- We'll see if he can manage big egos better this time. Feeling very nervous about this move at the moment.I was hoping for Rick Carlisle. But I guess we'll see how he goes.Good Luck PJ!!And Welcome to the Sonics!

I'm sure he'll try to play that hard-nosed style that the Spurs play, and it is certainly something the Sonics need.

Great move by the Sonics. This guy has won many rings while learning from Pop and will bring in a new and winning attitude with him to Seattle. A new coach and a new star player could be what the Sonics needed.
