QUOTE

The Cavaliers did not waste time after the free-agent negotiating period began Sunday.According to a source, the Cavs contacted Toronto Raptors guard/forward Morris Peterson shortly after the market opened.Peterson, according to the source, is interested in playing for the Cavs because they are a "championship-caliber" team. Playing time also is important to Peterson, said the source. Peterson wants to become a starter or get significant playing time. He lost his starting spot this past sea son.The Utah Jazz, Golden State Warriors, New Orleans Hornets, Miami Heat and Sacramento Kings have all expressed interest in Peterson.Free agents can sign with teams on July 11.Peterson, 29, could sign with the Cavs for most of or all of their midlevel exception of $5.5 million. He made about $4.5 million last season. He would be a valuable piece for the Cavs because of his defensive skills and outside-shooting ability. Coach Mike Brown emphasizes defense, and Peterson is a solid one-on-one defender. He also can boost the Cavs' outside shooting. Cleveland shot 35.2 percent from 3-point range in the regular season and 29.3 percent in the NBA Finals. Peterson, who is 6-7 and 220 pounds, shot 35.9 percent from 3-point range and averaged 8.9 points in a reserve role last year. As a starter in 2005-06, Peterson averaged 16.8 points per game and shot a career-high 39.5 percent from beyond the arc.Toronto coach Sam Mitchell reduced Peterson to a reserve role this past year. He did, however, get significant minutes in the playoffs against the New Jersey Nets to defend Vince Carter. It is not likely the Raptors will try to re-sign Peterson because they reportedly are ready to sign free-agent Jason Kapono of Miami to a four-year deal. Kapono led the league in 3-point shooting (51.4 percent) last season. In other news, not only did the Cavs try to purchase a pick in last week's draft, they also tried to make some trades. According to several league sources, the Cavs offered guard Larry Hughes to the Boston Celtics, but the Celtics instead decided on acquiring Ray Allen from the Seattle Supersonics. Also, point guard Eric Snow was offered to the New York Knicks for guards Fred Jones and Dan Dickau, but that deal fell through.
I think he'd be a good addition to add some shooting to the team because he is a good shooter and we desperately need someone who can shoot it. I don't think he'd take much salary either but if we got him what do you think would happen with the rotation? Put Gibson at PG, and Peterson at SG or Hughes at PG, Peterson at SG and Gibson as 6th man. I think it'll be Hughes and Peterson starting because Gibson is the type player we want coming off the bench to give us a nice spark.
We've got Kapono now so we're not gonna sign Peterson obviously. Peterson just needs to go to a team that will start him and give him good minutes. He'll fit in well with the Cavs.
This would be a good pickup for the Cavs. They need more jumpshooters in their offense to run successfully and Mo-Pete could fill that roll nicely. This would give Bron another teammate to dish the ball to when the double teams come.
Would be pretty nice. After Danny Ferry goes and resigns Sasha and Andy, we will be deep in the hole with cash. But I would love to get Peterson, Boykins, or even Fisher if it comes down to it. I hear we are trying harder for Fisher though, main reason is because hes in Cleveland.
We are not signing AV after what he might get in Memphis, and I'm not sold on Sasha, I'd say sign him and test him on the bench and start him sometimes.
Sign both Fisher and Peterson! Trade Marshall and Jones for something... My dream would be a shot-blocker. :worthy:
