Just throwing it out there...Hood took way less than anyone thought he could get to stay, in a similar situation.
He was guaranteed a starting spot on a team coming off a WCF appearance, and signed a 1+1 deal. Whiteside will not be guaranteed any such position and we will prolly be a lottery team.
The idea is you go into the season over the tax line and see how it plays out. You have option to pay the tax if yhe Blazers are successful or to offload contracts and get under the tax. It's always good to have options.
Heres the thing... I was all for tanking... But then we have this one player, you know... The greatest player ever for the blazers... Who literally did slapped the mess out of my face and said "did you forget who i am?"
Funny. There are numbers that are pretty much what Meyers got on here. The dude is in the top 5 in rebounds and leads the entire league in blocks. Oh yeah.... Those stats don't mean anything this time.
If there has been any year in the last 20 where it's been this wide-open (I keep thinking 1995, for some reason, but that's cursory), and a late-rising 7 or 8 seed who's finally healthy can pull off some series wins, then it's this one. Assuming we're back at relatively full strength, the Dame/CJ/Ariza/Melo (Collins)/Nurk (Whiteside) can do some damage in the playoffs. Even against the L*kers and/or Clippers. And, imo, we need to outwardly tank (especially when those guys get healthy) to be in the top 10 in the draft, so, yeah...
I think Whiteside gets something along the lines of 80/4. I wouldn't want him at that price. If we keep him, which I don't want to anyway since Nurk and Whiteside can't play togethor, i'd do what PtldPlatypus said and give him 40/3.
There's no guarantee that the Lakers will be 100% healthy either. Nobody would be surprised if Anthony Davis was out.
Huh? Not sure what you are getting at as my post was about finishing in the top 8 or just in the lottery.
Excuse me if i'm wrong. I think he is agreeing with you and adding that if they do get the 8th seed there is no guarantee the Lakers will be healthy in the first round or an injury could change the way that matchup works out. So getting the 13-14th pick vs a playoff position and or 15-17th pick makes even less difference?
waow. This guy created a thread not about Damian Lillard. WOW. I expected to see a thread from this guy about how Portland sucked and it was because of Lillard. That his recent stretch of games is proof that Lillard just doesn't care to win games. Simply because he's more interested in his rap career than basketball. I'm shocked. Like truly shocked. Nothing over 10mil per. Try to work a sign and trade if some other team offers him more.
Aww, okay. Did not see that. I'm an old fart so i don't do shortcuts as i need things simple and concise lol.
