Reportedly the Heat have talked to the Wizards about a sign-and-trade that would send James Posey to Washington for G Juan Carlos Navarro's draft rights...http://blog.washingtonpost.com/wizardsinsi...los_navarr.htmlNavarro could be a pretty good combo guard off the bench in the NBA, I hear he is a good shooter and scorer overall.
This would be awful. We already lost our best shooter in Kapono, if we lose Posey we would be awful from deep. Who else would we have who could shoot the three if Posey leaves? All we'd have is Jones. Walker sucks now and Cook isnt proven yet.

Posey also brings defense to the table and Navarro won't really put that on the table. I don't like this either, but I guess the Heat are looking for a viable backup in the backcourt that can play now.
As a Wizards fan, I don't favor this trade much, either. I haven't even see Navarro play with our team, and dealing him to Miami just for a solid (not lockdown) defender/three point shooter would disappoint me greatly.
I think that Juan Carlos Navarro needs to stay on the Wizards for now. He played a huge role on Barcelona and is an offensive beast. Posey for Navarro straight up is very un-attractive and risky for both teams, if the Wizards were to accept this trade they would need more in return.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (DRob-50-Forever @ Jul 6 2007, 12:44 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>This, I assume, would open up the door for Wright to get some big minutes.</div> For Miami this would also solve the 'Gary Payton retirement' problem. Navarro is a scoring combo guard who is small but quick. He will need to transition into the NBA but it should go smoothly for someone who excelled in the Euro League as much as he did. However, James Posey would be of little help for the Wizards. If DeShawn stays in Washington for the reccomended 3 years 9$ million then I would hope we would ship Navarro out. I do think we could get more for JCN, Memphis will probabely be willing to give up alot to keep Gasol happy.
If we do trade Posey to Washington, I would love to see Haywood come to Miami. We need a young C for when Shaq and Zo retire and even if Posey leaves we'll have a pretty good rotation at the SG/SF positions. With Wright, Cook, Walker, Jones, and Wade we'll be fine. I hope we can pull something like that off because that would help our future.

That's crazy, I'd rather have Navarro and would not like to do a straight up deal James Posey for Juan Carlos Navarro. Giving up Haywood and Navarro for Posey would be a huge steal for Miami.

He doesn't wanna be in Washington from what I have heard and Miami needs a young center, it works well for both teams in my opinion. I dont see the point in adding another young guard that wont get any minutes on our team, if we're gonna trade Posey, we should atleast get someone who will play a role in our future.
There are some new updates in this situation: <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>July 17, 2007 - 10:46 am Washington Post - According to a league source, Miami is preparing to make a trade offer to the Wizards for guard Juan Carlos Navarro, who recently negotiated his way out of a contract with FC Barcelona, one of the top teams in Europe. The Wizards have held Navarro's NBA rights since selecting him in the second round of the 2002 draft.</div> http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/471...er_for_navarro/ I know for a fact that Ernie has wanted to bring James Posey to this team since 2 years ago. A sign and trade is the most likely scenario in this situation. This will relieve the Heat of the need to sign Francis so they can pursue other options with their money. Navarro is only requesting 3 years 9 million. Also, another possible scenario is that the Heat send the Wizards Udonis Haslem for Navarro and Etan Thomas. At this point we are no longer in need for another backup PF so the Wizards can pursue James Posey rather than Andray Blatche. Now I would much rather have Andray Blatche than Udonis Haslem, due to the 6 year age difference. However, it's looking more and more like Blatche will be part of the Nets, Cavs, or Mavs next season rather than the Wizards. --- I don't know how salaries work in any of these situations. I do know that Navarro's rights will be traded as he is not yet signed by the Wizards so Washington would need to give up a contract to match. That's why there will likely be 1-2 fillers on each team traded.

He is also going to be a big part of our future since he is only 25 or 26, is a consistent doube-double threat and is signed to a long-term contract. Im fine with trading Posey since it seems that he's leaving anyway but the Haslem trade would be horrible.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>July 25, 2007 - 12:32 pm Miami Herald - Washington has shown little interest in accepting a Heat draft pick for FC Barcelona combo guard Juan Carlos Navarro.</div> http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/473...er_for_navarro/ Not alot of information but whatever. This was clearly going to happen, I'm sure Washington would want at least a solid backup rather than the Heat just offering a late first round draft pick. The main point of this deal is for the Wizards to make sure when they re-sign Arenas next season, they won't go into the luxury tax. Wizards are focused on getting an expiring contract or solid big-man.
