Ok, I'm going to be a senior in high school next season, then I'm off to college. I really want to go to UT, but I'm most likely going to Memphis. Is it normal for a student to root for another school? How do the other students see that? I'm just wondering because I have no plans to stop rooting for the Vols when I go to Memphis.

I mean, I'm probably not going to wear a whole bunch of Vols clothes on campus, that's just asking for trouble. I'll wear all my Vols clothes off campus. I probably won't take my front Tennessee Vols plate off my car though. It looks too nice.
I visited a few colleges around Ohio my senior year, and every place I went that wasn't Ohio State, I saw people wearing Ohio State stuff, I didn't think it was a big deal because if you grow up in Ohio, you're gonna be an OSU fan no matter where you end up going to college, but I know people who will get pissy at you if you where another colleges gear.

I was raised one. My mom was raised in Knoxville, my brother graduated from Tennessee, and my family is full of Vols fan. I'm not going to stop rooting for them just because I have to go to Memphis. Worst case scenario for me is I end up rooting a little bit for Memphis, while still rooting for Tennessee, just to kind of blend in a little, then once I gradutate, screw the Tigers.
Nah, you'll become a Memphis fan, believe me. Once you start going to all the games and everything, they'll grow on you and you'll probably come out of college being a bigger Memphis fan then UT.

I'm a pretty big Vols fan. I'm going to try to keep that from happening as much as I can. I don't really see myself going to that many games. I mean, I'll probably end up going to some just to have a good time with some friends, but I don't know if I'll go to a lot. I'm not even sure I'm going to Memphis though yet.
I understand what youre feeling man. I have been an Illinois fan my whole life and even my sister went there and graduated from there. The thing is, I'm going to the University of Arizona this year. It's a change because last year Arizona played Illinois and you really just cant root for either team. But I'm perfectly fine rooting for both teams. I'll probably root more for Arizona this year and I think you should start converting yourself to a Memphis fan too. I mean, Derrick Rose alone, should be a good enough reason to start liking Memphis.
It depends. I don't know a lot about how people from Memphis feel about people that go to Tennessee. Here in Texas, the big rivalry is texas versus Texas A&M. I'd be willing to say that it's one of the biggest rivalries anywhere. But guess what, there are still people that go to A&M that would rather go to texas, or would root for texas when they go to the Rose Bowl or whatever. I personally think it's downright sickening. I think most people that go to A&M would agree, too. And as for other schools, well I'll just say that probably the only time that we would root for 0U is when they're playing texas. Texas Tech is a tortilla throwing bunch of hicks, Baylor is preppy, OSU isn't notable, and so on. I just really can't think of a reason to root for another school, but whatever. All I'm getting at is that if those schools have a rivalry that even resembles ours, you will get a lot of crap from people.
Well I was in a certian situation. I've been a OU fan my whole life. My parents and siblings have all gone there. I didnt have a good enough ACT to make it into OU. So I went to a college called UCO for my freshman year so I could then transfer to OU, this fall. And when I was at UCO I was still a hell of a OU fan. I'm going to OU but I will still be a TU and ORU fan because they are my home town teams

We play them a lot and Memphis fans think their team is always going to beat the Vols.Last year in football. UM Fans: "We're going to upset you guys, just watch, it's in Memphis baby, Memphis, all the fans will be crazy."Yeah, well half the fans there were from UT, and I think the score was somewhere around 44-7.Last year in basketball..UM Fans: Dude, Memphis is going to spank Tennessee. CDR baby, CDR! Lofton sucks!Tennessee won by 19 and Lofton had 33.And Memphis fans seem to always think they'll do better in the SEC than C-USA....
Memphis fans hate Tennessee fans...I can just pray you dont get hurt Grizzfan....But seriously, I know some Vols fans who go to Memphis...but they dont wear their Vols gear to Memphis...And I dont know any Memphis fans that stupid....and we had the right to think we were going to kill Tennessee...too bad we got murdered. But we'll get revenge this season...and how would we do better in the SEC? Thats just idiotic...
