I would definitely trade CK with the intention of resigning him for $7 per in the off season, it's a no brainer but the deal has to include Staal, Smith or Hank. Thinking that CK will be easy to replace or isn't worth it is beyond foolish, guy with his size who also finishes as 3rd fastest skater in the skills challenge is unique and worth a $2.3 mil raise, the Rangers would still be under the cap without making a move if they resigned CK tomorrow. Next year they take a $6 mil hit for Shitthebed so they need to clear dead wood - moving Staal almost offsets that terrible deal. Scanning the UFA list for 27-28 year old free agents/current salary - Namestnikov ($3.25), Toffoli ($4.6), Granlund ($3.83), Galchenyuk 25 ($4.9), Sheary ($3), Vesey ($2.275), Hall ($3).
Hank was awful last night. Honestly, if this coach and GM want to try and make a legit playoff run, Shesterkin needs to play 90% of the games down the stretch.
So now we’re calling a guy who tore up his knee in training camp and needed knee surgery, left money on the table he’ll never get back to play here, and who now plays top 4 minutes for one of the best teams in the East while being second in defenseman scoring (with a total that would have him second on this team as well), “Shitthebed”. Very clever. It didn’t work out here for him. Both parties have moved on. Let’s just leave it at that.
What are you talking about. If you are referring to Shattenkirk, he has 28 points. That's not all that much.
Didnt say he was lighting the world on fire but 28 in 52 games is good for second in defenseman scoring on TB and would be about the same here too, behind DeAngelo and 1 behind Fox. My point was just saying there's no reason at all to trash the guy, he is a good guy who took a huge pay cut to come here, got hurt and it didnt work out. He's back to healthy and playing pretty well on a good team. It also goes to your point that this fan base will kill pretty much every defensemen that is brought in and run them out of town. Some of the stuff he still hears from Rangers fans on social media is a joke. As for what needs to happen to deal with his dead money next year, I'm fairly confident 2 of 3 out of Strome, Kreider and Buchnevich will not be here next year. I'm again hoping Kreider is the one here. His absence was noticeable last night. For a team that doesnt have a great compete level as it is, they missed his presence on the boards and in front of the net. But it's anyone's guess what happens. Also likely Staal is bought out. That's plenty of room to deal with Shatty's dead money hit, which luckily is only that high for 1 year and then drops down by a good amount the following year. JG is in a good position regarding the cap, he just has to make smart decisions on how he handles that room. DeAngelo is the biggest question. His talent is undeniable, but so is the depth on the right side of the blue line and his trade value.
One issue with trading TDA is that no other defenseman other than Trouba is capable of beating goalies consistently with their shot. So, the PP could be an issue.
If his knee was torn up Shatt should have sat - simple as that Prod,. Kevin said it was a dream come true to play for the Rangers got paid and scored 2 goals in 73 games repeatedly passing on open shots and failed to QB the PP. I didn't want him in the first place so my opinion is jaded but his sign/release set this organization back years so yes Shitthebed perhaps applies to the whole situation for both sides. As far as getting over it, that happens after next year's $6 mil cap hit drops to a mil.
Shattenkirk and Smith were atrocious signings. Staal isn't worth his salary but at least he's decent. That might be a guy that is moved with some retained. He's not dumb. He has to know he's not making this team next year. Not with all the young kids on the left side ready to make the jump. Plus TDA might go to the left if they keep him and bring Lundkvist over. If the Rangers are going with TDA, Fox and Lundvist on the defense, as I said they better get real big and real tough on the bottom 6 forward wise. Hank as much as I appreciate him carry this sorry ass organization for a decade, needs to do the right thing and retire. The organization needs to pay him the remainder of his contract and do the right thing. I don't care if it's under the table.
Sounds like Dubas is going dumpster diving. Igor is the best goalie on the team right now and that is painful for me to say. It makes no sense to have him playing 1/3 of the games, and even less sense to name him the starter and carry two backups. Cash in on Georgiev while he has value.
Yeah I have more love for Hank than any Ranger other than Messier. However, it was once Hank that came in at 23 and instantly made the team believe. You can see that with Shesterkin. You can see the team thinks they will win when he's in net. I'm thankful for what Staal has done here as well. He was a heck of a defenseman for a while. If I had to use Georgiev to dump Staal in order to sign Kreider and take less back I'd do it. Not sure what are going to do but it should be wild.
I think they may end up having to wait until draft time to move Georgiev now with Toronto out of the mix. Teams can evaluate where they are heading into next season more thoroughly.
I remember watching Hank's first games and I was like, fuck, we are saved. At least we have a chance to win now. I am getting that feeeling with Shesterkin.
It's always hilarious reading HF. Fans of other teams think that total crap prospects are the future of their team. LOL. Or that crappy players on their team that basically do nothing each game somehow are good enough to win them a cup. Hate to say it but Pitt is looking stout once again if they can stay healthy.
I'm really thinking trading Kreider would be stupid now. Even if they re-sign him. He's a leader on this team. Shattenkirk and Girardi come off the books next season so that is about 4.5 saved. Strome probably will be moved. That's 3 million saved and he will want 5+. No thanks. Smith will be bought out which should save 3 million. Hank might retire and I think he will which changes everything. Staal very well might get dealt. There is plenty of money for Kreider. I think they should add a dynamic, young forward by using some of the d and goalie prospects they have. Skjei probably will be dealt next year. I feel for Hank because dumbass Sather never put enough offense in front of him but that's the way it goes. Sucks but Shesterkin is now the man. Just like Hank was when he came in. On a side note. The dumb bastards in the blue seats need to chant Shesty. Not Igor. Igor sounds like crap. Get with it up there.
I think next year is the tighter year with a lot of dead money (6 mill from Shatt's buyout alone). After next year we get good relief with Hank/Staal/Smith off, and Shatt's # goes way down. I bite the bullet for one more season, unless a buyout of Hank or Staal or Smith have very little impact on the following season. I want out from all this dead money. As for Kreider, no way the Rangers give him 6 or 7 years at 7 mill per +/-. If he is willing to take 4 years or a smaller cap hit over 5 years, I can see something maybe getting done. But if Kreider is stuck on years and term, he will be dealt for sure. That is what the conversations right now will be focused on determining. I also think as the # 1 player available at the DL, we can really maximize return. If the return is top notch, I just don't think I can say no.
Always the outside chance they could re-sign him even if they trade him. Hopefully they can get a late 2nd for Fast. Sounds like AG won't be moving for the time being. Maybe a team like Carolina or Buffalo will deal for him at the draft. SJ possibly though they have Jones signed for awhile.
