The Portland Trail Blazers are set to trade Skal Labissiere to the Atlanta Hawks, according to multiple reports.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday that the Blazers would send Labissiere and cash to Atlanta in a trade, but Yahoo’s Chris Haynes then reported that the Blazers would receive $2 million in cash for Labissiere. This story will be updated as the accurate details of the trade become clear.

I tend to think this means we not doing a Whiteside trade... just one more small move or trade Hood if he agrees to get out of tax completley

Must be bad. There was no other move to get us under the tax line...so it wasn't about taxes

C: Whiteside, Nurkic, Swanigan
PF: Melo, Collins, Gabriel, Nassir? Ariza?

I liked Skal obviouslyyyy that’s my child, but I don’t see where his playing time would’ve have come from with everyone healthy. Pretty sure they’ll want to bring the same unit back next year as well, minus maybe Biggie, so I don’t really have an issue with dumping a pending free agent that wouldn’t have been in the rotation. And as far as development goes, I think Wenyen is the more worthwhile project.

Skal would be ahead of Biggie at the 5 if healthy and ahead of everyone but Melo and Collins at the 4 if healthy. That's if Nurk and Collins themselves are healthy.

Gabriel's got a long way to go to show he's at Skal's level, IMO. I'd say maybe Gabriel has more upside, but that's not really true, either. Skal was a contender to be a top five pick early in the season he came out. He's taller. If Gabriel does have more reward, it's marginal, and it comes with a lot more risk.

The other thing is looking ahead to next year. Presuming Whiteside moves on, you have Nurk coming back, Collins coming back, MAYBE Melo who is another year older. Are you going to just play Nurk at 5, Melo at 4 and Collins gets half his minutes at each position? Not sure how that would work. Skal was an ideal insurance policy big.

Isn't Whiteside a UFA? If so, I doubt we can bring him back.

I'm interested to see if we use his roster slot for someone who was waived.

We have his bird rights and can resign him he he agrees.
The C market is going to be weak, so he might not get the contract he expects

That's an interesting point. I think it was Woj I saw tweeting that all the cap room that appeared to be available around the league this offseason dried up pretty quickly with the trades. IIRC, he tweeted the Hawks went from a ton of cap space to now basically just having a mid-level exception or something.

I would put the odds of Hassan being back well under 50 percent, but if he's happy here and the market can't give him much more, who knows?

Looks like a buyers market, especially for centers.

Why would we? We just sent Skal off for tax savings; what would be the point of undoing that move?

If all they cared about were tax savings they would’ve done more than just dump Skal. They got rid of an injured guy that wasn’t going to be in the rotation, and opened up a roster spot for someone that could be.

See? Anyone can play these hypotheticals.

well, nobody knows for sure, but reducing the tax might mean they would be willing to spend money in the buyout market as opposed to still having the same payroll and adding more to it in the buyout market. We also don't know what Skal's availability is the rest of the year and even if he comes back would he play once Nurkic and Collins are in the rotation. Lots of variables to consider. Nice thing about the buyout market is that they are usually vet min contracts and only for the rest of the season

What the fuck is that move about. Couldn't we trade Swanigan instead and cut even more money ? Skal with a shot knee can probably play better anyways. And even if we needed a second to offload biggie instead, Skal is still more valuable than a 2nd.

Piss off Neil. Piss off Jody
