As awful of robbery this was, here are positives Going to OT with 7 players on back to back games with Dame playing 48 minutes could have been hazard for injuries. 2nd NBA screwed up on national Televised game on Friday night where Dame was going off. NBA owes us going foward now. Lillard and Melo in playoffs is 100x higher rating than young team Memphis. A pissed off Dame might equal inferno scoring every game. Thoughts?
It's all about how you respond in this league. In 2012, we fell apart after that game against OKC where they got the call wrong. Ironically, that collapse ended up trading for the pick that got us Lillard. So we'll see what the future holds for us.
it's NBA, there are no moral victories, only wins and losses. Dame played 80 minutes in this B2B, has one day off, than has to play 3 games in 4 nights, with a B2B on the road. I don't see any positives in that, especially not after getting hosed tonight Portland has 24 wins with 29 games remaining. If they go 29-0 they'd only match last season's record. They have to go 21-8 just to hit 45 wins. It's a tough task and losing this game doesn't have much sliver lining
Listen I think it was a mistake for Dame to go for the tie, he really should have shot a 3 last second or found the open man since they were probably gonna trap him. And while OT would have sucked for our players health wise, the fact is it is no blessing in disguise when the refs literally fucked us and literally gave it to the Jazz. It is one thing to lose because you missed the shot, it is another to lose because of officiating. The latter makes the loss way worse because our guys fought hard all game to win, but it was stolen from them. They at least deserved to try and stop the Jazz and send it to OT and then try and win in OT even if I would have hated seeing them play longer.
the problem was Utah had a foul to give. So whatever play we wanted they would foul, then you left with no time out. If the goal was to take last shot going for 3, Utah could foul with 3 seconds left and then you gotta inbound ball without timeout.
Bad situations are still bad. However, if there is anyone I trust to meet adversity and turn it into fuel, it is Dame.
There is no chance they foul dame who is good at putting up the shot in the act, then he gets 3 free throws and with how good he is at and 1s, then maybe it is a 4 point play. Either way, ultimately dame did what he wanted and it ended up being a good attempt only for it to be fucked hard by a bunch of god damn clowns.
As we saw several instances of earlier in the second half, Utah could have fouled Dame on a three and gotten away with that, too. When Joe Ingles can foul Dame on a three and get away with it - Joe fucking Ingles!!! - then anyone can.
As bad as both non-calls were at the end, it was the Royce O'Neale, undercut of Dame that caused a concussion that may have been even worse. It was an obvious missed call that resulted in the Blazers losing a player to injury. Add in the missed kicked balls, Dame getting hit (twice) on made 3-pointers, and then another missed call on O'Neale on the missed goaltend. The L2M report will be a joke that will do absolutely nothing. They've already admitted they blew the goaltend. I bet they don't admit the missed the foul to Dame as well.
I just watched it (East Coast time - I went to bed) and I can't get too outraged since the ball wasn't going in the basket anyway.
That's irrelevant though as the call should have been goal tending, game tied and get back and play defense. I can accept the loss, if it had been won legitimately.
I'm not saying that shouldn't've been the call, I'm saying if it had, that would've been sheer luck, because Dame missed the layup. The real issue is that the refs ignored Dame's outrage. I wonder if he makes himself unpopular with refs because he seems kind of pissed with them ALL THE TIME.
The foul that preceded the shot was as obvious as the goal tend. Called correctly, Lillard is at the line for the and one and the lead. Of course Utah undoubtedly would have waltzed to the hoop going at Swanigan like they had the previous crunch time possessions... STOMP
I don't trust Terry to productively channel all this anger and frustration to help us play better on the court. He's much more likely to ignore it, and let the anger fester while losing our edge. Really need Dame to set this right. How we respond tmrw will be massive.
