He's injured & there's a possibility that he is out for the season.
No one would trade a unprotected 2nd for him.
There's a chance that the ONLY value he has are the restricted rights

Skal was a good backup with upside. Given away for nothing because of Neil's other stupid moves.

I wouldn't trade Hood, Ariza won't last much longer.

I’m disappointed because I think Skal will be a solid player in the league assuming his knee is okay.

Well, top 55 protected picks CAN convey. The Blazers just conveyed one this past year for the one they gave in the Layman trade. So here’s to hoping Atlanta takes off!

I wonder if Hoard factored in the decision at all. I’ve noticed he’s been playing power forward lately in the g league. All his points basically come at the rim. I don't believe he got a two year deal on his two way, so he’ll need to be converted at some point. He would also be a cheaper end of the bench guy than Skal.

To me, he's more in competition with Gabriel ... their games have more overlap than either does with Skal.

Hoard hasn’t shown an ability to space the floor, which limits where he can play. Gabriel meanwhile has been an efficient three point shooter in the g league, on high volume.

That 2nd round pick that conveyed last year wasn't protected only the one that we owe this year. Your point that it would've conveyed anyway still stands though.

It's just one aspect. Size-wise, Hoard and Gabriel are similar. Skal not only can shoot from deep better than either, he's the only one of the three who can score with his back to the basket. He's the best shot blocker of the three, although Gabriel's better than Hoard. Gabriel and Hoard are better dribblers than Skal, but I'd say Skal is the better passer than either of them.

Gabriel and Hoard play the 3-4. Skal plays the 4 and 5. If you are playing Gabriel or Hoard at the 5, you're going extremely undersized.

Much more overlap between Hoard and Gabriel than Skal with either of them.

    Yeah, okay...

Their GM has wanted to acquire him for awhile now but we had to pay them to take him?

And their GM needed to get all the rehab notes from Portland?

He was in a better negotiating position. They didn't have to do anything... Neil needed to reduce the tax hit. Atlanta used that to their advantage.

Yep, it's not like a GM is going to tell Olshey during the negotiations that they have been wanting to acquire Skal for awhile.

Yeah, they were so desperate to save $2 million that they had to pay him Atlanta to take him. Just like we had to pay Chicago to take Vonleh. Oh and we gave Minnesota Layman for free this summer.

    Bad asset management.

    Bad cap management.

    Bad negotiator.
