Batum’s on ball playmaking was very valuable, but man his shooting deteriorated badly.

Even his last 2 years or so here it sucked. Listen I can see what the allure for Batum was back then but he was very overrated. It’s not a coincidence he fell off this bad imo. He had that one good contract year his first season with the Hornets, got the max deal then never showed up after that again.

Batum was a flim-flam man. He persuaded himself that he was blue chip, which caused him to play a couple of good minutes per game, which conned Blazer fans into thinking he was tops.

At summer camp after his draft, he demanded to not be stashed in Europe. After Outlaw or Webster's injury (I forgot which) , the rookie demanded to start. But unlike other effort players, his willpower ebbed and flowed with his unstable moods.

Pietrus, also from France, had the same conceit in Golden State.

Yea, let me make a one hour video compilation of him missing a million open threes.

Either you watched those games or you didn't.
I watched every game in his final POR years and he drove me up the wall with his misses. His defense was way overrated too.

He was winning every close game with his 3s to me on PS. Word. I loved him for that. Otherwise, he's waste of talent, but it's his life I guess.

Why do you think they track stats? It’s not that hard to look up. Of course you won’t like what you see because reality is Aminu wasn’t even close to Batums prime years.

Also, the irony of mentioning open misses in an argument FOR Aminu is *chefs kiss*

I don't give a crap about stats in this case because i watched the games. Maybe Batum hit more threes in garbage time or in 1st quarters, Aminu hit more threes when it mattered.
*Neither of them was actually a good three point shooter.

Batum's bricks were a known fact around here. Now when a lot of time has passed, some people here allow themselves to overrate him again.

What's interesting is that Otto Porter to some in this forum would be the ideal small forward and in comparison to Batum while he was at Portland the numbers are very comparable. Batum was typically averaging in the 13-15ppg range with 5-6rpg and 5-6 apg.

I don't watch Otto Porter, but he seems to be a joke on some podcasts i listen to.

I think Batum had some really cool tricks up his sleeves and i liked his passing ability. I just didn't like his bricks and effort on some nights.

Not sure how I feel about Aminu vs Batum... My guess is the stats were sort of similar. I think Batum was a lot better with the ball in his hands, not as strong in the paint, and offensively was kind of on or off (which I think was the same for both of them).

Very few players made me as uncomfortable when they dribble as Aminu did.

I think an Aminu / Batum pairing would have similar issues as Aminu / Harkless did, but overall would be be better.

As if stats are the bible from god himself.
Stats lie, that's why people who watch games talk about basketball and not statisticians.

I dunno, Batum doesn't look washed up in this video from last Summer. I think he just doesn't fit with the young Hornets. I think he needs to be playing for a team that might do something, or at least, playing alongside someone he respects. He reminds me a bit of Boris Diaw in his later years: doesn't give a shit about how many points he's scored, prepared to do the little things, high BBall IQ, good passer for someone that tall.

Weird to see Kobe at the end of the video...

Do you think you’re the only one that watches games or something? You can post all you want that Batum wasn’t a good three point shooter, but it doesn’t make it true. Stats don’t actually lie when the sample size is so large. In 7 seasons in Portland, Batum shot over 36% from outside. That’s objectively above average and superior to Aminu, along with his TS%, DBPM, OBPM, and BPM. It’s ok to trust stats/metrics when they all lead to the same conclusion.

He’s one of those glue guys that would look better on a good team, like Ariza. I haven’t really watched him play this year so idk where he’s at, but guys don’t usually regress at 30 unless they have some sort of physical issue. The Batum reunion ship has probably sailed but I wouldn’t be surprised if he went to another team and produced.

I'm trying to think what that team might be. The Spurs would be the obvious choice, but they seem to be going young. Toronto, perhaps? Maybe he'll just take his millions back to France and team up with Tony Parker in team ownership.

He’s a prime buyout candidate next season if they’re unable to trade him. At that point I bet all the contenders would be after him. A ballhandling wing that defends? Oh yeah, he’ll be valued.
