First: I really like terry stotts. I know what he represents for the team and for the organization. He's good coach. I think we made a really mistake gaven him a 3 year extension; He's good but he's not a elite coach. He's been on the Blazers for 8 years and he made us to the WCF last year. We got sweept, leading game 2, 3 and 4 by 18 points in the 3qr. Thats it. Examples: Toronto had the COY, DeRozan (their guy). They made a really tough decision and FIRE their great coach and trade their best play. Other words they had BALLs to make decisions. They are losing to 1 guy: Lebron James in the east. We lost this year to GSW, NYK, CAVS, and a lof of trash teams. His offense game play is simple: Give Dame the ball and cross your fingers. His defense is atrocius, to say the least. He will have a pass for this year, because of the injures. Dame likes the guy, and thats one of the reasons he's staying for so long. I cant remember a coach who stayed so long in his job after got sweep year after year. Again: I like him, and i really want he to get us better. I just do think he will get us to the championship. ''yeah but our gm doenst make good decisions and he sign mario blabla'' - Im 100% that Stotts and Neil work together to get the roster ''better''. I dont think Neil made decisions without talk to Stotts, so... I really doubt that Paul would gave a 3 year extension after being sweep by a injury team. I really dont believe that. Paul was pissed when we got sweept by NOLA. what you guys think?
Paul Allen's virtue and his vice was that he tended to defer to his GM. (Didn't Allen actually prefer Durant over Oden?)
Yep. People claim that he meddled, but you're 100% correct. PA was passionate, but he almost always deferred to his GM
Stotts and CJ aren't going anywhere because Dame likes them. He chooses friendships over championships.
I think you're wrong. It's his bench that sucks. Well, his bench and all of his injuries of which he's had a ton. When the injuries heal, his first string will become his bench and the team will shine.
Neil is responsible for the composition of the team. For the massive turnover and loss of cohesion. Stotts is responsible for a lack of any reasonable system. A highly predictable iso offense and a sufferable zone defense that leaves gaping holes, for which there is no sign of nor care for adjustments.
- Loss of cohesion and chemistry due to a massive turnover. More than half the team left via free agency or trades. With those players, the Blazers replaced a lot of veteran know how with youth. - A plague of injuries. The Basketball Gods swept thtough taking all the first born. Pretty much every player took turns with the injury bug. Nurkic has been out all year. Gasol never played to begin with. Hood is out for the season. Collins most of it. Yadda yadda yadda. - Young players including rookies asked to play to big of roles to soon. Anfernee Simons thought by many (including myself) to have the potential to be a future super star was given too large a role too soon. The pressure has proven too much. He isn't ready. Nassir Little likely wouldn't have played his rookie season sans injuries. The Blazers also rely on Wenyen Gabriel, Caleb Swanigan, and Gary Trent Jr. Gary at least has been a bright light in a dim season. - The Blazers rely too much on older players who are asked to give more than they likely can. Melo and Ariza are towards the end of their careers, yet they are playing roles as if they are still in their prime. - There is no discernable, sustainable, produtive, or successful strategy in what coach Terry Stotts calls a system. A heavily predictive and easily defendable isolation on offense and a more than lackadaisical zone defense without an insight for adjustment. These are the reasons for Portlands failed season
Forget beating these teams. They have enough healthy players to not get blown out of the gym by these teams.
my priorities would be: Olshey replaced CJ traded Stotts replaced and yeah, that all requires a new GM that informs Dame that some significant changes need to be made in order to have a shot at contending. ame might not like the changes, but he's got to much character to sabotage a new roster Dame isn't the GM, and he doesn't have the resume or stature to wield that much influence. Besides, he'd never want anybody replaced. What happens with the coaches or the players isn't his call. He deserves input, but higher authority needs to make decisions
Still pisses me off beyond belief that we turned over our entire roster rather than firing the shitty ass head coach who can’t make an adjustment to save his fucking life. At this point I want Olshey and Stotts gone but Stotts will forever hold a very, very poor place in my heart. I’ve said it a million times. If he didn’t have Dame and CJ his offense would be ATROCIOUS too. The fact Dame can shoot from 40ft makes the fucking dribble weave actually kinda work and provides additional spacing. and we still get locked up in the playoffs fuck that guy (not really, he’s just like the Meyers Leonard of coaches, but worse, since some people think he’s actually a decent coach. He’s not. At least when it matters.)
