    Hello darkness, my old friend
Speaking of why the 49ers can't afford Diggs, they just re-signed Arik Amstead to a 5 year deal, worth up to $85 million. I haven't seen it reported how much was guaranteed. I didn't expect the 49ers to get Armstead locked up.

Still probably want to work on deals for DeForest Buckner and George Kittle. And hopefully smaller deals for Ronald Blair and maybe Damontre Moore. And there's still Emmanuel Sanders...

I assume the 49ers will structure these new deals to give them breathing room this year, since the salary cap projects to increase a decent amount next year, with the addition of an extra game and the players' pool of the revenue going up from 47% to 48%.

    WTF!

49ers just traded Buckner for the 13th pick. Like @Minstrel they probably couldn't afford to keep everyone and Buckner got over $21 million a year in his new contract with the Colts. This is a huge blow to SF's D-Line though.

Don't worry @PtldPlatypus, your Vikings just gave a punter a 3 year extension for $9 million with $5 million guaranteed.

Well, they extended Cousins so they knew they'd need a good punter.

Man, I never would've guessed that going into this off season the 49ers would trade Buckner and give Armstead the big extension.

One positive, I hadn't really been doing a lot of research on mid to high 1st round picks since the 49ers were picking so late. Now I have something to do while there are no sports!

I know this is extremely selfish but I'm glad the NFL is basically business as usual right now...

Niners gonna get rid of Buckner to get a WR like Juedy, Lamb, or Ruggs

Wow, that is shocking. If the 49ers were going to cut bait on one of their defensive line stars, I'd have expected it to either be Dee Ford or else tagging and trading Armstead.

A top-15 pick is a pretty strong return for an interior defensive lineman who's no longer cheap, but wow.

This would be crazy to actually happen since they just made the Super Bowl but between the rumored Brady interest (that has now ended) and this trade today what if the 49ers were targeting a QB?

If they were worried about the cap then bringing in a rookie and dealing/cutting Jimmy G would save them over $20 million this season. Then like the Seahawks and Rams they could use that money to load up the team around the QB. I do know that if Shanahan and/or Lynch fell in love with a QB this year then it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibilities.

What do you expect the Niners to do? WR, CB, DT, or package 31 with 13 to get a QB like Herbert or Love then cut Jimmy.

Oh god, I know I just joked about it but if the 49ers traded Buckner and 31 for Herbert or Love I'd probably cry.

Alright, I'm not going to panic because they just made the Super Bowl and I trust Lynch/Shanahan but I just read the 49ers were in on Austin Hooper until the Browns came back with an over the top offer.

What are they up to? LOL

As much as I love Herbert it’s tough to gauge his nfl potential.

Nah, they run a lot of 2 TE sets and are one of the few teams that use a FB consistently but given their cap situation chasing a TE does seem rather odd.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I think they'll trade back on 31 to pick up more selections between rounds 1 and 4 (since they dealt all of those) and use 13 on a wide receiver. This is one of the best wide receiver classes ever, the 49ers need a top-end WR to push their offense to the next level, so I'd be pretty surprised if the 49ers don't grab one of them--I'm assuming/guessing that Shanahan likes the top receivers in this draft and that was one of the impetuses of this deal.

I don't think they cut bait on Garoppolo to replace him with Herbert or Love. Now, if Tagovailoa dropped...but that seems incredibly unlikely.
