This is why I said that the stimulus deal is "half baked". And yeah I took some heat about it.

There will sure be a lot of people who either don't really need the money because they are still employed or they are already on government cheese. As i said earlier a good portion of this money should instead go to help "small businesses" because they generally have less cash flow and will be hurt the most by the effects of this virus situation. Unfortunately there will be a lot of small businesses who will not reopen

@hoopsjock ....I wish the best of luck to you and your employees.

    This sucks big time.
I've seen the faces of happy and very good workers when they got their pink slips. Absolutely heart breaking.

I wouldn't work for Amazon or Walmart. I'll eat my words in a couple years if we are in soup lines though.

Amazon Engineering pays so well... It's always tempting, my Brother in Laws are both SW engineers at Amazon and their jobs sound crappy, like just not interesting at all, but the paychecks sound good...

you want minimum wage level workers running the country? No offense to anyone here who makes minimum wage but I do not want people making $15/hr making decisions like that. I get it in theory but we won’t attract the best and brightest paying that.

I think his proposals were kind of not good, but I didn't protest much because I think his point is more or less if they had to spend a day in a normal person's life they'd change their tune's real quick/

No offense Hoopsjock. But the only people that would be able to meet all 5 of your requirements, and still be able to afford to work in the top political jobs, would be.....
    Billionairs.

So go to the extreme to make your point I guess. Ok I’ll do that. Let’s have the country run by the ten checkers at Walmart near you. Go take a look. Good luck.

I dont really agree with his proposals or that it would be fixed in a month. However, I think the point is that most of our “political elites” are ridiculously out of touch with reality for a majority of people. A lot of hyperbole, but I agree that we’d see a huge shift in politics if they had to be in the shoes most of us are in. Or they’d all immediately get bought off and change all the laws lol.

Who said Walmart checkers would get elected?

No one would want to serve for the good of the country?

If you pay people minimum wage, as you suggest, you won’t get the leadership you want. Would people do it for the good of the country? Not anyone who is at the level we want to lead the country. People have to pay bills. I have never said I want a bunch of rich white dudes in charge. Just that they need to be paid more than min wage. But maybe you were not being serious.

Their salaries aren’t the biggest problem. It’s the ancillary income they “earn”. I use that term loosely.

I have been vehemently against the raise the minimum wage to $15 movement but my point all along has been that if these people had to struggle things would get better quickly.

Have to pay out of pocket for healthcare without being able to take bribes from insurance providers and pharmaceutical companies? I bet they come up with a better system rather quickly for universal coverage.

These people are set for life as soon as they are elected. Their top priorities are often lining their selfish pockets. They should have to earn those luxuries.

The answer lies somewhere in between.
People don't take upper managerial jobs because of the money because they generally can earn much more in private enterprise. No, most people take upper level government jobs because of their desire to serve the country. The weak ones disintegrate their moral and ethical values and start lining their pockets with ill gotten gain. That's why it's up to the government to self regulate from an independent branch of the government, which up until recently was the Justice Department. It's up to the voters to reward the good ones and boot the bad ones at the polls during the general elections.
