There is only one person that has been calling it the Chinese flu and he even had Corona virus crossed out and sharpie gate struck again w ith him or an aid wrote in Chinese flu. He changed the name well after the fact. Is it a big deal? No, but it's just another example of trump stirring the pot for no reason. I even heard that a republican politician say that we should boycott Asian businesses. Is this what we want the USA to be known for? Other Asian Americans have been threatened and assaulted all due to this inept president. When is enough, enough?
Now do that for Trump Ties. (It would actually be perfectly on brand if MAGA hats were made in China. You could have small print on the back say "...so we don't have to make these hats in China any more". Wouldn't work for KAG hats, though.)
There are a lot of things some people did/said in the 60's but that was then, not now. For example, among other things, some freely used the "N" word to describe blacks and it was pretty much commonplace. Time and intelligence allow for a change in judgement.
I have two Asian daughter in laws and luckily they haven't been harassed both are conservative Christians, they harassed more because of that, people that harass others are usually insecure, hateful and or both. Much of it is done for sport too jokingly. The Spanish flu originated from the same place the Spanish fly did, I think. Doesn’t seem to be a problem in categorizing critizing those because of political believes, which is just as bad imo.
My problem with Trump and his cronies repeatedly calling it the Chinese virus: First of all, it is 100% unnecessary. The virus already has a name; covid19 technically, or more generically, corona virus. It has already been named, and the entire world is calling it that. The comparison to Spanish flue and the etymology of its name is non existent. There is absolutely no reason to cross out the word "Corona virus" and sharpie in "Chinese virus" and train your whole staff to repeat it ad nauseam, unless you are doing it for a reason. It's basically a way to look down on another country, create xenophobic connotations which help to further add to Trump's nationalistic and isolationist policies, and etc. It's 100% unnecessary. And yes, words have consequences. People will be harrassed because of this.
I believe the virus is called Corona virus, the disease it causes is called COVID19. Yes people called it the Wuhon virus (on both sides of the media) a couple months ago, but now its clearly a political thing.
Chinese checkers were not named that for purely malicious/derogatory reasons. As I've said before, the reason Trump is relabeling the corona virus is so that he can inevitably deny culpability for our present situation and blame it on "China"...wait for it.
That was named Ebola by scientists and became THE name for it. The entire world called it that. The current pandemic is called covid19 or corona virus. The whole world is calling it that. That is already THE name of it. The only one calling it anything different is Trump and his team. It would be like the whole world calling darts, "darts" and Trump's team calling it "British Stabby Throwies". It is 100% unnecessary.
Not true. You could also say that even more help and better targeted help is being blocked by Republicans. This had better get negotiated to a proper compromise soon or disaster is around the corner.

I think it’s more he wants to place the blame on China as that’s how he thinks, it’s somebody else’s fault not ours. I wore a NY Yankees hat on a duck-boat ride in Boston few years back and it was like I should be shot. I knew I would get reactions but wow!
He’s also right. He is labeling it Chinese virus to throw shade at the Chinese government. And they absolutely deserve it. It has nothing to do with racism as some seem to infer. You guys seem to want to forget about why this happened. I’ve been to China multiple times and I love the people there. Their government sucks ass though.
