Even though all the reasons they wanted to do it made sense to me I was still against it. That pesky constitution and all. Congress can pass a law that says whatever they want. We can kick the crap out of any conventional army in a matter of a week, but our military isn't built to police long term, and this would be on our own soil. There are 400 million guns in America. In an unconventional revolution with a resistance, I suspect we would do better than you think.
They have Overwhelming power and you would not have a gun in hand when they exercise that power. We can only use guns against scavengers and street thugs when they break in.

If that were the case, the military would simply defect.
